a lot of the current spending is previous administration programs coming to life or being funded that weren't prior.

Glad you are admitting how destructive all the Covid spending in 2020 was for the Biden Administration in 2021-2022.

Rothbard was right... deficits are deferred taxation, theft from future generations and debt monetizaton is counterfeiting. He predicted us deficit spending and fed intervention would lead to an interest rate spike debt crisis and eventually a totalitarian us govt.

Look around, we're well on our way. There is no fiscal difference in the current group of politicians. They play to cultural differences to stay in power.

4 lane paved highway to hell.

Man, economy and state should be required reading.

You literally can't own enough hard assets to protect yourself.

Every president since Reagan has had huge deficits.

The US ran at a surplus from 1998 to 2001.

We were all one paycheck away from living in an appliance box under an overpass during the early 1980s per the big three news broadcasts.

Yeah, but that's the thing.

We saw the Big Three broadcasts once a day for 30 minutes.

We had CNN start in the 80s, but they didn't really get cranked up until the economy had recovered.

Today we have a 24 hour news cycle, dozens of t.v. news channels, social media, news websites, news texted directly to our phones, blogs, etc., etc., etc.

The sheer volume of (any) narrative we are fed today dwarfs any narrative we were fed back then, and it isn't close.

No, Bush had one year.

Then his tax cuts went into effect without proportional spending cuts to go along with them. And that was the end of it to date...

The entire media pushed that lie. Malicious media is not new.

Nobody is saying it is.

But it's the difference in hearing a narrative once or twice a week and 5 dozen times a week.

Now even people who don't pay much attention or seek hard news out are inundated with the narratives.

That's what's new.

That and the fact that the right has succumbed to populism along with the left.
