The border wall is really going to help our border control manage the border to process immigrants legally and orderly which will actually save immigrant lives and help to keep women and children immigrants from getting raped.

654 miles of border wall already existed before Trump took office, and as of August last year, Trump had replaced about 60 miles of it but not added any new length to the wall. Homeland security had gotten funding for 334 miles of wall total, 224 miles of which was just replacing old wall. Replacing old parts of the wall is something that would have happened anyway with or without Trump.

I don't know the context for these new numbers, but I bet most or all of them are still just replacing old wall. Maybe the "pre construction" number means actual new wall, lol. It is too complicated to grab up all the private land quickly, which has slowed this down. That's understandable, of course.

But you bet Trump will carefully use wiggle words to make it sound like he's made the border wall longer, and you bet it will be eaten up by his base. Very good, very cool.

Yeppers

Yuge project is underway in the Laredo, TX area. Laredo is the only major US city that has no border wall protection.
Lots of drug cartel activity in that area.

That's being changed as we now speak.

The tough nut is still they Rio Grande Valley sector(southern most tip of Texas, in the Brownsville area).

Lots of complex landowner and right-of-way issues.. that are being ironed out with property owners.

There are hurricane issues and flooding issues as well. The river bank is constantly shifting.

The RGV sector is were most of the illegal aliens, human-trafficking, drug smuggling is happening.

Once we get the RGV sector secured, its all downhill on 'Merica's wall system on the southern border.

Maybe you're the idiot? As of January, the amount of completed wall was up to 100 miles total, and though a tiny amount was new wall and some new wall had began construction most of it was replacement wall. The ~150 mile completed in the OP is almost certainly still mostly replacement wall.

You know these talking points are utter lies right?

It's like living in a tent and then someone builds you a mansion, and you claim it was no big deal because they just "replaced" your house.

Patiently waiting for that inconceivable situation where the federal gov't would use such a barrier to impede the travel of US citizens in their attempt to escape something..........

Oh, wait.

Assuming the old wall was properly surveiled by camera and patrolled by Border Patrol, which any wall has to be, that's actually a much smaller difference than putting a brand new wall on completely empty land. I know it sure looks impressive.
