I am getting lashed out on social media from my teacher friends (and I am one too). I do not believe this money should go to everyone, but only those who lost their jobs. I believe this is a waste of money in many ways.

***Note: I believe the reason EVERYONE is getting it because it is faster that way than doing any kind of processing or decision making.

ETA: maybe I could have worded this more eloquently..and many of these comments have been beneficial in helping me understand. I just have a hard time seeing this as a stimulus check and not a welfare check BECAUSE A) not everyone gets it equally and B) more than just the People got it ($25 million to congressional pay LOL, Art buildings, foundations, etc.) making it very suspicious to me.

People who lost their jobs are getting unemployment. The stimulus checks are for "stimulus" (rightly or wrongly).

Well since it was deemed a stimulus check, it is to stimulate the economy, not help those who lost their jobs only.

I have the same feeling of those on social security, why do they need the check? They havent lost income.

Or why does louisiana food stamp recipients get more food stamps?

Good way at showing you have no idea what this check is actually for. Sound like my mother in law.

and businesses that showed no loss of revenue should get the PPP money.

Is that consistent with your position?

Seeing where that money went to and all the organizations who got their share makes me not only aware of where it went, but disappointed we did it.

It's stimulus retard, meant to stimulate the economy. People who lost their job are getting enhanced unemployment, if you're a teacher, you should quit

People who lose their jobs are not being uniquely hurt.
I recently saw an interview with Lindsey Graham. He said part of the problem is that people who lose their jobs get unemployment benefits. And those benefits are sometimes more money than their job pays.

I agree. But those who did lose their jobs shouldn't be getting a stimulus check either. They are receiving unemployment on steroids. UE in MS went from $235 to $835 a week.

Id rather them take the money and pay companies to get out of China.

I was just at Costco in Madison, MS. TVs and electronics are flying off their shelves.

Yeah, bud, this makes a lot of sense. I am going to take my portion of $1,200 (whatever exactly that is) and throw it into my HELOC and go get house seven when foreclosures hit this Fall. That is my stimulus.

well, I hear you OP but...

my situation is this...as business owner, we are in fact still working but future projects have slowed way down..

so we will feel a major impact financially...

so any stimulus is welcomed...I will likely turn around and give to uncle sam because we owe taxes from last year...

exactly

I got one, don't need or want it, may figure out someone to donate it to

I would imagine coordinating a list of unemployment claims to taxpayers would need more than a vlookup. Probably even index match couldn't do it.

Exactly. Didn't the numbers show that unemployment is now around $22/hour which is a pay RAISE for many on it?

I don’t think social security people should get it. Their life hasn’t changed at all. If the money is so good at stimulating the economy they should give everyone$1,000,000. Think how much stimulation could be done with that

No doubt, I can appreciate that answer. My thinking was focusing hard on government employees where we don't create a product and have a guaranteed income.

I 10000000000% agree.

As much as I support Trump, I don’t agree with this. Why would NBA and MLB players need this check? They are already multi millionaires

Why the goal is to STIMULATE the economy, if it is spent by all then it helps.

Also while I didnt lose my job, I like many here have had pay and hours cut that hurts more than someone who lost their job and getting unemployment.

Well I also got one but don’t really need it. Actually I don’t need it at all. But that’s not the point. The point is to have folks use this money to spend. Even someone like me who has a job and a comfortable savings just in case has slowed their spending to save a little more in this uncertain time. That impacts business. I’m eating out less, buying less items for spring etc. The whole point of the check is to spend it. I am going to use mine to do some renovations and I’ll pay my contractor who has experience a slow down in his business. So I’ll get my home upgraded and my contractor will get some needed money from me. I’ll buy american materials from Home Depot. and the cycle of the money through the economy will go on and on. The folks who take the money and invest it on cheap stocks in their portfolio are the ones who aren’t using it as intended either right or wrong.
