And increase STEM curricula.

There should be federal assistance for STEM majors. STEM majors are a net positive to society and should have inexpensive to zero cost tuition. SJW majors should be charged double.

STEM is now ate up with SJWs, though.

"Diversity" is now some sort of acceptable, objective goal of STEM fields. Not competence. Not "diversity of ideas", but straight up quotas, particularly of women and (non South Asian or East Asian) minorities.

You serious?

How is that possible? STEM fields are extremely objective. STEM is based on the laws of nature and mathematics. There is no subjectivity.

True, (particularly when it comes to NSF awards), but there is still more of a meritocracy than in other curricula.

It's not STEM anymore. It's now STEAM, adding an A for Arts.

Thus destroying any meaning the acronym had to begin with.

The Federal Government should be nowhere near education.

Good Lord.

Just like SJWs to hide their inadequacies and ride on the coattails of the productive.

But politicians are saying we don't produce enough skilled workers (particularly in the STEM fields). Well, give universities an incentive to produce more STEM majors.

This.

Not that everyone is capable of being an engineer, physicist, botanist, chemist, etc... but making STEM education "free" while having to pay for all other degrees will lead to a shitload of people going into STEM fields. That will lead to people not really interested in the fields to fail out (wasted money) as well as more graduates in these fields that will drive salaries down.

From what I read, it was decided that "STEM" wasn't inclusive enough and unfairly left out the arts.

I saw that one coming a mile away.

I work in a university system. My supervisor had to sit through 6 hours of PP training modules on diversity, inclusion, microaggressions, EE, etc.

Such bullshite.

Those universities are STATE run institutions. All of the politicians saying these things should return to their STATE, aka the proper political subdivision, to handle and effectuate policy regarding a primarily STATE function.

ETA: I'm fine if the "arts" is glass blowing, metal working, sculpture, graphic arts, etc. etc. Just not majors like women studies, SJW history, etc.

Camille Paglia agrees with you about SJW curricula. She blames the colleges for moving away from subject matter that is designed to provoke thought and research and instead offer subjects that makes students feel good.

Depending on what you mean by SJW curricula, I might be onboard. I'd argue that focus on arts is what separates us from the rest of the world, as the thing China specifically lags behind in is creative thinking. I know numerous gaming companies who need graphic artists more than they need programmers. The US has increased its number of STEM graduates to nearly 600,000 a year. That's nearly twice the number produced in 2000. Arts are important, especially visual arts, as the need for those sorts of artists will increase with technology.

In a related story, sports and athletics aren't inclusive enough and unfairly leave out the unathletic.

Subjects that emotionally make you feel good will generally lead to a skill of being a professional bitch/complainer/victim and no job.

Full disclosure, I'm not sure if there's a set definition of 'arts' in STEAM yet. I know in my hometown of Huntsville there's a non-profit group called STEAMworks, and for them "Arts" means what you said...glass working, wood working, metal working, sculpture, painting, 3-D printing, etc. Actual creation and fabrication, not liberal arts studies.
