That being said I’m not a fan of unions but when it comes to a fricking airplane I’m all for paying the experienced guys whatever it takes to keep them on the payroll.

Transport aircraft are more automated than ever. The job of an airline pilot has gotten easier and easier yet they demand more and more pay.
Ryan Air has a better safety record than any major US airline and they certainly don't pay their pilots like royalty. Higher compensation does not equal safer pilots.

Tractors drive themselves now and are more automated than ever(and people still mess stuff up) that doesn’t mean I’m gonna put just anybody on one. You still need people who know what to do when the automated stuff malfunctions

I didn't say we should put unqualified people in the flight decks. Airlines outside of the US have just as qualified of pilots (at least first world nations) as the US but they are paid a far more reasonable salary. Canada has the same qualifications as the US but their pilots are not paid anywhere near as much as US pilots. You don't see Air Canada, Westjet, and Porter planes falling out of the sky.

Unions are not necessary at all. They only exist because of legislation that continues to be fostered by liberals. Unionswould never be tolerated in a free market.
