For better or worse, the US has entered that era. Our attitude in international affairs is:
"Don't like it? Who is going to stop us?"
Maybe it's always been that way, but it has been refreshingly honest for the Trump Administration to openly embrace that stance.
It's annoying now when the Administration pretends that international law applies to, say, the Strait of Hormuz.
