Going to be interesting watching European countries’ reactions when the first major US base closure happens.
US troops stationed at those bases pump a lot of money into the local economies….without being a drain on the host country’s social programs since the US military covers costs tor their healthcare and other benefits.

I don't think it will come to this, but yes, anytime we hint that we might close a base the locals throw a fit.
Those bases had a real purpose prior to 1989. I'm just not sure that is true any longer.

Maybe this Iran stuff was good for us. Imagine how much the US gov’t would save on leaving NATO and shutting down dozens of military bases across Europe. Honestly, I was pro Ukrainian, but defund that too.
Maybe we could lower our federal tax rate a few % and get out of this deficit in a year.
