Sounds like Fiscal Conservativism is dead in the UK even Tories are blaming the results on cuts to social spending and excessive privatization.

Fiscal comservatism is dead period. The future is soft anglo-saxon identity politics, and the future is bright! Eventually China will run the world anyway. The smart play is to secure a favored status for english speaking people in the Xin de shìjiè zhìxù. Luckily anglo-saxon representative democracy has the good sense to make the smart play.

Sinn Fein and the SNIP generally abstain though there's rumblings the SNIP may join in an anti-Tory block.

If Corbyn somehow cobbles together a governing coalition, he should pull Trump's invite- be an easy way to unite the British public behind him.

The collapse of SNIP is the only thing keeping the Tories from total collapse.

UKIP is dead as a party.

Hoo boy, that's a 2-seat margin of error for a CON + DUP coalition if the NI projections are accurate.

UKIP only has one seat currently but they were the third highest vote receiver in the last election. The U.K. is single member districts which is what the OP's post is predicting

Looks like they lost that seat

UKIP has no organization and collects random votes through out the country

From personal experience they are generally disliked by most brits.

There's a difference between these two. SNP swear in and vote on some things, they just abstain as a bloc on English issues. Sinn Fein don't even take their seats because it requires them to swear fealty to the queen, so they don't factor in the majority math at all.

There is no candidate like a us election

The conservatives needed a certain number of seats to keep a majority government. They fell short. So now they will be forced to work with Labour.

No they will likely be close enough to majority that they only need one of the minor Irish parties to coalition with them

But stuff could still go wrong in the next few hours and Theresa May is probably being replaced no matter what

Seven seats for a party that won't even sit. British politics are way more fun than US politics.

Good morning to all.

With 646 of 650 seats counted:

Conservative - 315 (-12)
Labour - 261 (+31)
SNP - 35 (-19)
Liberal Democrat - 12 (+3)
Democratic Unionist - 10 (+2)
Sinn Féin - 7 (+3)
Plaid Cymru - 4 (+1)
Green - 1 (0)
Independent - 1 (-4)
Ukip - 0 (0)
Ulster Unionist - 0 (-2)
Social Democrat - 0 (-3)

Aside from May, the SNP has suffered the most brutal losses from this election. Focus is turning to the Democratic Unionist Party as a possible kingmaker.

Some snippets from The Telegraph:

quote:

Ministers were also concerned by Mrs May's own performance. While Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader, made a series of passionate and sure-footed performances in the final stages of the campaign, Mrs May was privately described by some Tory candidates as "Maybot" - repeating near-identical lines in her speeches.

quote:

The Conservatives also struggled this week in the wake of the London Bridge terror attack after Labour successfully shifted the debate onto cuts in the numbers of police officers under Mrs May when she was Home Secretary.

quote:

Tory ministers told The Telegraph said that they were infuriated with the way the campaign was run.

They said that Mrs May made a "fundamental strategic error" with her controversial plans to overhaul social care. The manifesto introduced abandoned plans for a cap on social care, in what quickly became known as a "dementia tax".

The Prime Minister was forced to reverse the policy, damaging her authority and reputation for being decisive. Other manifesto pledges were seen as similarly "punitive" for older voters, including means testing the winter fuel allowance and abandoning the triple lock on rises in the state pension.

They needed a strong, decisive leader. May failed at the role. That, along with other issues and a passionless, autopilot approach to the campaign, derailed the Conservatives in this election. They acted like they did not have to work for it.

jesus get some new material

that and fact May has been pretty bad dealing with terrorism in multiple positions

any way for some real discussion this was an upset that most didn't see coming.

The young voters showed up big time for Labour, while the conservatives thought they could be lazy and walk through it.

UKIP is now dead with only pulling half a million votes around the country. SNP also took a hit, so the Scottish independence vote won't be looking too good.

This result will force the parties to work with each other.
