Please don't call Spencer a conservative. I say that as someone who followed him when he was unknown. He's not a conservative, and he fooled me for a long time about what he is. Well, for a little while at least.
Paul Gottfreid mentored him. He was at one point at least, part of conservatism. He certainly isn't now.

Unfortunately our leftist (indeed Cultural Marxist) media are more interested in embarrassing the entire Right by quoting the nuttiest remarks made by those identified with the Altright than they are in noticing inconvenient truths. And it’s obvious to me that statements that come out of Altright, intended to unsettle blacks, Hispanics, and Jews (but kindly note never the gay lobby), are counterproductive. They do nothing to enhance the credibility of this oppositional force. For full disclosure: I know well perhaps the most controversial member of this group, Richard Spencer, and once enjoyed a close personal relation with him. Richard has a charismatic presence, in contrast to the nebbishes for Hillary; and he possesses the self-confidence of a genuine leader. I fully share his contemptuous attitude toward multicultural totalitarianism, and unlike conservatism inc. Richard is fearless in going after our self-appointed thought censors. But I wish Richard would think more often before he blurts out reckless indiscretions. Shocking one’s listener has its limits, certainly in terms of traditional standards of taste. There is merit in what the Delphic Oracle taught: “Nothing in excess.”
At one point Spencer was close to Paul. Paul is a very respectable member of the conservatives. So i think it's fair to say Richard was once part of the conservative movement.

pretty sad that the alt-right fanboys have allowed a white nationalist to go mainstream

Pretty sad that in your effort to score here you have to lie.
Shameful actually.

I'm serious, what is the answer to this? A free-for-all, deal-with-it kind of situation?
The answer is so simple that most people don't see it anymore.
What is the answer? The answer is that you have police bring the motherfricking hammer down on these "protesters."
Throw a brick through a window? Boom. Handcuffs. Jail.
Start a fire? Boom. Handcuffs. Jail.
Throw a punch? Boom. Handcuffs. Jail.
Damage property? Boom. Handcuffs. Jail.
When the law actually is enforced, these lunatics will stop it. I HIGHLY doubt most of these people are willing to go to jail.
The reason they've become so emboldened is because local leadership has allowed them to get away with it.

I didn't realize Antifa was a problem in Gainsville Florida? Maybe it's just that assholes like Spencer are stirring the pot just for the sake of doing so because it sells books. Maybe we should recognize trolling for what it is and not allow people to do it professionally, especially when it costs the taxpayers half a million. Freedom of speech does not equal freedom to be heard. You don't have a right to a stage and a microphone. You have a right to a voice.

I don't know anything about the left, really. I just hope the red they wear when the balloon goes up doesn't hide the red dot in my Aimpoint.

I listened to Radix podcast for a couple of years. I knew they certainly were out of the race mainstream, but I enjoyed a non-PC discussion, and I did and still do agree with a lot of their message.
But once Trump won Spencer found fame and started openly associating with these ridiculous Nazi LARPers and seemingly intentionally marginalizing the alt right. I think he got rich fast, and I wonder who paid him, to be honest.

The only answer in this thread that proposes the only solution.
I would add that schools should suspend any student who blocks or disrupts an invited speaker on campus from speaking. If that happens every time, then it will stop.

You are a winner, Max. As long as you run hard to first base I don't care how many times you get out. You are a winner in my book.
ETA: At least you didn't try to defend your lie. More winning for you, Max.

I'm really not sure what you're getting at? Do you think I'm a leftist?
I'm to the left of white nationalists and outright fascists, but not many others, FYI.

Designate a protest area.
If they stay in it, you need less money for security.
If they break out, arrest them and fine them $1000 each. Might even make money!

And all this time I thought it was the free speech and assembly provisions of the US Constitution that allowed this!
Wow, new respect for the alt right for free speech and assembly!

Have you lied so much that you don't even know when you are doing it now? That's the problem with lying.
Consider stopping.
I'll accept your apology for lying, Max. I promise.
