A farmer near Charleston wrote a description of the storm that had hit his farm. Wind that he had never seen before. Wind that blew down big trees , rain so heavy and blowing sideways and that lasted so very long. I read it and it surely sounded like a hurricane, before internal combustion engines existed and when lamps, if you were wealthy, were lighted by whale oil. Wind power ruled the seas.
