Serious question. Why is this issue so important to you?

So, yes? 50 of our soldiers are preventing an entire country from invading?

Not sure, but I will say that this is a decent start. If this is the only movement out of the Middle East though, I will have my doubts about why. We have been in Afghanistan for almost 20 years - we need to leave ASAP

Well, yes. If Turkey were to kill those 50 soldiers, what do you think the ramifications of that would be?

Not sure but I personally don't believe we are the sole reason they have not invaded.

yea the amount of power that hand full of troops could produce would do real damage.

So we stay forever?

No but we leaned on the Kurds to help us fight ISIS in Syria...there are better ways to leave than just pulling the plug overnight and leaving them set up for slaughter.

The real problem I have is we were doing joint patrols with the Turks on the border and that gave them a look at Kurd defenses and as part of that the Kurds also dismantled some of their defenses. We gave Turks an unfair leg up in the coming fight.

To answer do we stay there forever - no. We're never going to fix the Turkish - Kurd tensions but if it were up to me I'd use our leverage over Turkey to create a safe zone in Iraq Kurdistan and give the Kurds time to leave the contested area in Syria. Once that deadline passed anyone who stayed can't complain about a Turkish invasion since they had time to go to Iraq Kurdistan.

It's not just that 50 it's what they stand for. Turkey could easily invade and overrun a company minus worth of dudes but the fallout would be so severe they wouldn't consider it.

I'n all for a full withdrawal from Afghanistan.

My problem with this one is we talked the Kurds into going in with us and helping us now we just reversed course.

It's like saying you don't want to get into barfights which is fine and completely logical. But the time to do it is before going into a bar and starting one.

They could sacrifice 200-300 of their troops to kill those 50, but then tge U.S. would turn Astana into glass and make Istanbul Constantinople again.

We see that;s working real well since Turkey has promptly invaded.

"We're gonna pull out and let you invade northern Syria but if you are real imhumane I'm going to destroy your economy."

Also threatened to obliterate nK and instead gave them a bunch of photo ops as they continue to test missiles.
