That may white folks fly in/out of MSY? Flying out of Jxn, MS, I'm usually the only honkey (and person under 350lbs) on the plane.
I had the pleasure of attending a High School State Championship basketball game yesterday in the Mississippi Coliseum (in downtown Jackson). The folks working the entry area and concessions were nice and the facility was in really good shape. Not new or flashy but in good repair and serviceable.

My fellow spectators were well behaved.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I frequently shite on Jackson, so I’m giving it a deserved attaboy.

What I do not understand is TSA is an appropriations measure and appropriations fall under the Senate parliamentarian rules of "reconciliation" where only a simple majority (50+1) is required to pass a fiscal measure. There must be some GOP Senators like Collins and Murkowski joining the Dems in the Senate to hold this up.

As someone has answered that’s limited to once a year, and therefore will always be an omnibus budget reconciliation huge type of bill. These 2 and probably at least a few more are stopping the doing away with the silent filibuster.

quote:

The silent filibuster is a parliamentary procedure in the United States Senate where a senator can delay or prevent a vote on a bill from taking place by extending debate on the measure indefinitely, without having to actively speak on the floor. This tactic allows a determined minority to block legislation without the need for a traditional, vocal filibuster.

To overcome a silent filibuster, the majority party must secure 60 votes to invoke cloture and end debate, a high bar that often proves difficult to meet.

By not requiring the Senators to do talking filibusters and allowing the Senate to basically put a hold on a vote to do other Senate business unless 60 Senators vote for cloture they have made it too easy. There is no pressure of other bills that need debate/attention getting delayed and pushed behind the filibuster. They don’t have to keep talking non-stop to hold the floor.

It used to be “principles” that some Republicans are still trying to uphold that would see enough of the opposition to always cross over and vote for cloture & allow a vote on the bill 30 hours later. Only one side is now trying to uphold those principles of voting for cloture for a bill you don’t support, and it is going to cost them the majority as they aren’t getting enough stuff passed while patting themselves on the back for having principles.

The Dems under Biden’s Autopen tried to revoke it. They will again once the majority with those 2 former
Dems no longer Senators, but Thune and the rest of the RINOs were still have their principles…
quote:

On January 19, 2022, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer raised a point of order with respect to a voting rights bill pending at that time "that no further amendments, motions, or points of order be in order, and that any appeals be determined without debate", a one-time rule change which would have allowed a talking filibuster on the bill without any hindrances.[95] The chair overruled the point of order, and the Senate sustained the decision of the chair by a vote of 52–48, with Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema joining all Republicans in voting against the reform.
The Dems were already souring on Sinema, but they really turned on her after this. She was even an alphabet.

This must be a New Orleans/LA/MSY problem

It was awful at Hobby this morning. Stood in line for about 3 hours. They opened the tsa precheck while I was near the entrance, and let's just say I got creative to get into that line. Got to my flight with about 2 minutes to spare.

This response was to someone who said last time, not today. We can all admit LA/New Orleans has problems, right?

Last time, I missed my flight due to a long TSA line where the machines were not being used, just dogs and metal detectors.

When they use the dogs it’s much faster yet msy caused this poster to miss a flight.
