I would not recommend anyone with a history of a hiatal hernia or gastric reflux not take this medication.

I assume no one you love is overweight? Either that or you are just an a-hole with a destination to Hell?

Wasn’t there a study that found it can negatively affect brain tissue as well?

Not sure how we would know. Under this administration, pharma transparency seems to be optional.

the lazy fatties in this thread are pissed at this study - they think Ozempic is some miracle drug that won't shorten their lives in other ways

However, in both cases, going to the gym and lifting can stop almost all of this loss. So if a person is on Ozempic, just hitting the gym a few times per week will mitigate it.
Had they gone to the gym, they might have avoided being a blimp. Why would they start the gym now? They choose the easy way and take injections or whatever.

Not from what I've read.

Now some people may need it for life, but how I've seen it described is a great way to get a 90-180 day head start

Semaglutide works well, until your body adjusts.

There's no lighting in the bottle, it's all in the head.

Discipline.

Reading the thread it is obvious to me that the Covid lesson is so ingrained that it will be applied to every new drug.

My personal opinion is that all diets with obese people result in muscle loss unless a person really spends time in the gym and eating protein which isn’t a lot of people. And that insulin diabetics already die a decade and a half earlier than normal life spans. So obesity itself is a far worse option that side effects from Ozempic.

As for Ozempic etc, the gastric issues are severely underreported imho. I base that solely on my conversations with a gastroenterologist buddy and various nurses.

Ozempic slows down the digestive process, which makes you feel full longer and not have an appetite.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it’s more than likely bad for you.

Ironically, the most interesting aspect of the drug to me are the impacts on the brain. You're right, it's all in the head and this class of drugs seem to do wonders helping up there.

Even that aspect isn’t exactly new. For years, nurses were stealing the samples of Ozempic that we got in clinic from the reps. That wasn’t the same scale, but it’s been a popular weight loss medication since at least 2019.

What we can say is that generally the formulation is well-tolerated and better than drugs like Saxenda because it is once-a-week with a relatively stringent dosing pattern. You’ll have some degree of reactions for any medication, but given its adoption by the general public, the medication is relatively benign.

One possible reason for that is that the Americans who are most likely to use the medication already have some preexisting metabolic abnormalities due to being overweight but not obese or diabetic. Adding some degree of glycemic control for those patients with the added benefit of causing weight loss is going to be a net benefit unless there is some brand new side effect which is both serious and has yet to be documented.
