A friendly reminder that Louisiana itself needs a doge type program to audit BR. We have the highest sales taxes in the country on top of actually having state income tax and property tax. Other states are doing away with income tax but yet LA is broke.

Edited to add; 8th highest tax burden in the country, the top 7 darkest of purple states. Cali, NY, NJ, Hawaii, Illinois, Oregon, Minnesota

Hopefully our offshore O&G royalty % will get bumped up.

By suing Chevron and likely impacting other companies?

Louisiana's senators and representatives need to get off their asses push the legislation that will expand state waters from 3 to 9 miles. (Would benefit LA, MS, and AL). The extra O&G royalties (that wouldn't have to be shared with other states) would be a massive windfall for LA.

Might be the only way for the state to recoup some of this money that keeps getting cut from Federal grant programs.

Fed royalties have nothing to do with that.

Why the hell should FEMA be paying to raise someone’s home?

Well, since FEMA doesn't make anything to create funds. The question should be why should we, the taxpayers, pay to raise someone's home?

I just watched fires raze part of the greater L.A. metro area and Hollywood, the music industry and private citizens helped bail them out. Before that, I saw the tragedy left in Helene's wake that was taken care of by good private citizens and groups from around the US. Before that, I watched FEMA hand the people of Maui $700 and put them in tents on the beach.

Federal money for disaster relief is a joke. Federal money for disaster preparedness is a scam.

If that money was just a slush fund and being squandered, I have no problem with it being cut. And I have property in New Orleans too.

Why should we expect FEMA to raise people's homes?

For everyone crying why should FEMA pay to raise people’s homes? The answer is because those homes are insured through the National Flood Insurance Program through FEMA. These homeowners are paying subsidized insurance for properties that are prone to flood. By FEMA issuing grants to raise houses, these homeowners can then buy flood insurance on the open market and likely never have a claim again. If FEMA does not issue a grant to raise their house, and it floods, the flood claim is likely greater than the cost to raise the house. It is much cheaper to raise a house one time than for FEMA to pay out on flood insurance claims every time it floods.
