China drove America's rare earth miners out of the market by selling their own far below the cost of production. Classic market manipulation and now we have to scramble to reverse the dependency.

Rare Earth's are the cure to a lot of their problems if they monopolize the market.

China is doing things at a loss in order to gain market share.

And their economy is struggling.

What will happen is China will gain a lot of market share on the global economy, just not with the USA.

They havent monopolized the market as much as they saw the future and invested heavily in them.

We didnt, so now we are behind. China is blessed with abundant natural resources, but so is Russia. And Canada.

We have other options, it takes investment and the Chinese are light years ahead of us.

Does their faltering economy affect the trade war?

You seem casual about a problem that won't go away and could determine who the big dick on earth's campus is for the next century.

Who is pouring money into US minerals if everyone is buying Chinese? How do you catch up in that scenario? I'm looking for alternative policies to price floors.

There shouldnt be a trade war.

Trade wars are objectively horrible for everyone.

Trade wars are a failure of diplomacy and a failure of Enginuity, we are simply being passed by in this economy by the Chinese who are investing in the FUTURE.

Its our own fault, not the Chinese.

They invested, we passed that by to reap short term profits.

They are ahead of us, which is why Trump wants economic warfare, but its our own lack of investment thats the problem

This is beyond casual. This is borderline glee. You got a new gal named Ping Ping or something?

Its angst.

Did you reap those short term profits? I didnt. There are people living high off the hog because we handed over future development of most resources to China.

You populists are fighting the wrong war.

Yeah, I don’t see how that changes things. They would still be in a position to extort us.

You said nothing to answer the question but spewed needless words.

If china’s economy is faltering what does this mean in a trade war. A war that is going on now between china and the US.

Also, trade wars are often the precursor to shooting wars. Not always but often.

I'd prefer to not be in one with a peer power to be quite honest.

However, the only way to combat China is to either shoot it out (bad) or just adapt and become more like China. I think we're straddling between those two options every day in the United States. I think there are competing views within our own WH right now along those lines. You've got the wing that wants to make US SEZs with tax breaks, subsidies, and labor relocation incentives; you've got the other that are essentially war hawks hiding under the guise of economists.

Our mfg per capita blows China out of the water.

We arent being taken advantage of, we are winning bigly. this can easily change if we keep fricking it up.

Ok, since the materials that will be critical to every piece of critical technology isn't the right war, what is? We clearly disagree on the importance of this particular industry.

And it’s not just rare earths. That is the issue of the day, but they are monopolizing a lot of things that we need. They are cleary studying how to beat us and implementing the plan. We need to wake up and start fighting back. Believe it or not, this is a bipartisan issue. Democrats (other than the far left) know this is a problem. They will make political hay out of it, but you will see when they regain power they will continue most of these policies.

How does our capita stack up?

Anyway, you aren’t addressing the point that if they have the monopoly on something vital to us they can control us.

China has trillions in real estate that will never be inhabited. they are a walking time bomb.

You beat China by playing the long game. Invest outside of china, move mfg to Mexico and India.
