I'm not wrong at all for generalizing. The holy roller types couldn't get enough of people like Pat Robertson who hated gay people and loved endless wars.

I think you should read the OP again. It says Trump would ask congress to make gay marriage federal law. Not ban it.

Here’s what I can see happening (FTR, I think Obergfell was correctly decided but on the wrong principle; equal protection instead of substantive due process).
Many countries require a civil ceremony at the courthouse with a government officiant for a “legal” marriage. The church one does not count and is not required. I could see that become the norm here as well.

No it hasn’t. The overwhelming majority of gays have done just that, get married and go about their lives focusing on normal life things. They’re quiet and don’t fit the stereotype, so I don’t expect this fact to get acknowledged here.
All of the trans stuff is being pushed by a very loud minority (including a preponderance of straight women for some reason). And the gays mentioned above, don’t want anything to do with the trans insanity and want kids to be protected from it.

It is just a word, and its been called marriage in the law for a long time.

Yeah, they are silly like that.
They overcame Democratic resistance and passed the civil rights act back in the 60s even though black people being oppressed didn't affect any of them since they were all white.
