i mean, since McConnell laid down the law at the end of Barry’s last term that a new justice cant be confirmed in the last year of a President’s term (and we dont know if Trump will win another), then we cant in good conscience change the rules arbitrarily , can we?

My word, I never thought of it but I would love for this to happen. The melt of leftists would be beautiful.

So Trump's got until 2024 to get things done. I don't see it being a problem.

I agree with you on almost nothing, because you're almost always wrong. But, you hit the nail on the head on this one. In fact, I'll go a step further. To me, it's insane that all the Justices are either Jewish or Catholic. Did that just happen randomly seems very strange to me that not one Justice out of a total of 9 is Protestant.

That being said, I will now seemingly contradict myself. If a Justice is stepping down soon, it's obviously Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I want Amy Barrett to replace her. Barrett is both female AND another Catholic, but she's the PERSON I want taking that spot.

What's more insane is they're all Ivy League.

Can't we get Notre Dame or Stanford or University of Chicago or Magnolia League?

Personally, I hope that Trump picks another name off the Heritage/Federalist list, but that it is NOT a woman.

I have no problem at all with female SCOTUS Justices, but I DO dislike the notion that any given seat is somehow reserved for a member of a given demographic group.

I agree with you.

I have no problem with President Trump nominating a qualified conservative female to the SCOTUS but to mandate that it must be a female or a female must replace a female justice is just a quota system which is unconstitutional.

I think that's because President Trump thinks RBG will be the next Supreme Court justice to retire but if a male justice retires first then he should still nominate Barrett not because she is a female but because she would be an excellent Supreme Court justice.

The Senate majority will make that decision.

The decision was already made, in the last year of Obama’s term.

But... McConnell’s reasoning at the time was based on the fact that he said it was ‘too close to an upcoming Presidential election’ where the people will get to decide, or some such nonsense.. it wasn’t specific to Merrick Garland.

The Senate Majority Leader (aka Cocaine Mitch) reserves the right to change his mind...
