I'm all for stopping violence and also violence against police--all violence.

I find these stats interesting:
Since 2001, the average yearly US combat death toll due to the War on Terror is 433.125.
Since 2001, the average yearly murder rate in Chicago is 522.5 (only counting bodies found inside Chicago city limits, of course).
BUT WHERE IS THE MEDIA OUTRAGE???!!! WHERE IS THE DEATH COUNTER???!!!

In the case of NYC, I think it would take a descent back into the hell of pre-Giuliani NYC, from the 1970s, 80s, and early 90s.
Back then you had shite like the criminals having more rights than the ordinary people, which is why you had a Bernie Goetz incident where he shot four muggers.
Chicago is rapidly heading for this kind of situation, IMHO, between the city finances being a clusterfrick and having more violence than most war zones.
