A lot of unmanned craft have made it through.

What are you basing that claim on? Just curious.

The left thinks the right hates NASA because it's a government program.

The right is inherently nationalist, and beating other countries in high tech shite makes people proud of their country so the right actually loves NASA. Unfortunately the left has used NASA as a glorified weatherman to study polar ice caps and shite in the name of a politically charged issue like global warming. That is just never going to get a lot of funding in congress, especially not from a Republican Congress. Even a democratic controlled congress would only fund climate research enough to be able to say they care. Nobody gets excited about that shite though, not even the left. It's fricking boring.

Trump has a real chance to build the space program to it's former glory here. Building the space program would bring a lot of high paying jobs to a swing state in Florida. Unfortunately I predict the NASA leadership will push back on human exploration. They are personally invested in climate change research and truly believe that should be one of NASA's primary missions. Trump's plan is to transfer earth science to NOAA. NASA will hate this because they look down on NOAA and of course there are a lot of NASA employees who only do earth science.

Want to show some examples?

Me. frick NASA. If it needs to be explored, Microsoft will do it. NASA isn't some untouchable government organization. They need to go.

I like NASA. The space program has spurred a lot of new technologies. In principle I'd agree with you that government does nothing but get in the way but in this case I think reality doesn't align with our principles.

NASA is one of the few programs that is a return on investment.

Generally speaking, private industries will not invest in innovation if a ROI is not achieved within 5-7 years. NASA however, will invest in innovation out 20 or 30 years. This creates new technologies that revolutionizes industry.

The amount of money generated by the moon missions is unreal compared to the cost.

Consider that for a moment, the United States currently does not have an autonomous functioning program of manned spaceflight at all.
That doesn't appear to be changing. In fact, Trump's only goal for NASA is for 83 years from today.

The only thing mentioned so far is to get NASA out of the low earth orbit and earth science business.

Oil exploration has benefited greatly from NASA's work in that area. I wouldn't knock its' contribution to the economy either.

We aren't speaking generally. We are speaking specifically.

Who would pay money to explore space when NASA is doing it for them at taxpayers expense?

No one, that's the point. I'm okay with funding nasa to explore amd create new technologies. This will open up space to private ventures even more. Before farmers and traders came to North America European governments funded exploration missions. Before we built railroads and had cattle drives and mined gold in the west the US government sent Lewis and Clark to explore it. Private industry will take larger risks than the government will in the name of profit IF there is a real prospect of profit.

The space industry is booming right now. New Theoretical electromagnetic drives have been developed by private citizens. One is even going up in space for a test flight next year. Asteroid mining amd space tourism companies have already been formed.

This is a lie. I was told repeatedly he was anti science. and would defund NASA to fix potholes.

Let's see, if it's a 6 month to 1 year trip each way to Mars, wouldn't that make it almost a 3-year journey to any of Jupiter's moons THROUGH the asteroid belt?

Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?
