not well versed on why this is a good or bad thing though admittedly. So my opinion on it is worthless
There isn’t a big enough market domestically to sustain profitable grain prices. It will help people like me who grow live animals because feed ingredients like soybean meal will continue to drop.

That will prompt retaliatory tariffs that will close international markets for U.S. agriculture.
Just like last time Trump was President.
Last time he did this, the U.S. government had to release new farm subsidies so the farmers wouldn’t go bankrupt. Will that happen this time?

Probably. Several farms were going under this year without this.
Two large operations that border my catfish farm just auctioned all their equipment and leased or are selling the land.
Banks are cutting off anyone who leases rowcrop land for over 200 dollars an acre. I know one bank told their loan officers to pick 1 of every 3 farmers to give a loan to and cut the other two off. It’s getting ugly

So what? The EU placed tariffs on US agriculture products entering the EU.

Getting fleeced how? By buying American? I always try to buy American, given a choice.

Oof and farmers are struggling bad already.
Maybe they should stop buying million dollar houses, $100,000 vehicles, and donating vast sums of money to Ole Miss for NIL deals.

Not sure the logic behind this
Less US exports of soybeans => more soybeans in the USA to be used in the USA (cattle feed is one example) => lower beef prices. I have no idea if it will work but that is the logic behind it.

Why is exporting ag products bad?
Because our great orange leader said so.

I guess this may help grocery prices go down.
Doubtful. Big Ag will keep the prices low to screw farmers. Then Big Food will keep prices high. Then use the profits to buy out and employee the family farmers that went bankrupt.

10 million of them are harvesting your food for CHEAP. Just wait until you have to get white boys out in the fields and see what happens to food prices.
Sounds like something southern slave owners would have said back in the early 1800's

You can’t just magically create enough domestic demand for US soybeans without expanding crush capacity.

Higher prices, less competition, less innovation.
You would be better off supporting small business than BigCorp

So lower catfish prices for lent?
Seriously Mississippi Delta farmed raised catfish are MUCH better tasing than that Chinese white meat stuff some seafood restaurants try to sell as "catfish".

Would I? You don't know nearly as much as you think you do...

OP completely fricked up the meaning of the thread originally. In fact, seems to have had it backwards. Do better, people.

Yes. Youre welcome.

No sense expanding crush capacity when there’s no demand for soybean meal

Catfish prices have been low on the pond bank and at the processor
The problem is stores and restaurants won’t lower prices. Many of them still have the high pricing from back during Covid. A 15 lb box of catfish fillets wholesale were 90-120 dollars due in Covid. They’re 45-70 dollars now, but retail prices aren’t reflecting that. Fresh fillets should be about 7 dollars a lb. retail but I see anywhere from 9-14 dollars at grocery stores. It’s killing us on sales volume

Will lead to more subsidies for farmers in the long run
This is actually true..I have helped with the farm bill surveys a long time ago. Part of it is the subsidies to pay farmers to not produce so much otherwise it would floor the prices. We really need to open up more markets as the amount this country can produce is outstanding
