No, the host country ultimately decides IF the games are held in that country.

You mean like going on tv and saying that half the country is dumb enough and thinks standing up to F-16’s with hunting rifles is just another example of how bad a people we are ?

What does this have to do with FIFA or anything related to this situation?
This is a wild whattaboutism reach to defend stupidity.

He’s not doing that. I think we all know that.

If Biden can do it to Novak Djokovic, then why can't Trump do it to FIFA?

The question isn't why can't he, it's why would he?

And to nuke the World Cup on the premise that the "Boston" venue is unsafe (despite not actually being in Boston) is lunacy.

Right or wrong, pissing matches with Trump usually don’t work out well for the other guy.

But why even have a pissing match at all for this?

The problem with Trumps threats to move the game will be if FIFA decides to just move them to one of the other 2 host nations that would gladly take more games and will already be set up and have stadiums to take on a few more games.

Apparently, judge biasberg left the bench and is now feeding directives to FIFA about how they too can dictate terms to overrule the CiC.

FIFA is cute thinking Trump has no authority to cancel their fricking games if he wanted to. It's a soccer tournament, not some life saving humanitarian event. Eat shite.

FAFO FIFA.

This was a case of Trump stepping on his own tail.

What does the World Cup game have to do with Boston when the stadium is in Foxborough.....30 miles away from Boston.

Gillette Stadium is even further from Boston proper than Jerry World is from Dallas.

Then why would the president say he would have to call FIFA to get the game removed? If he had the authority, he would not have to make that call.

I believe the phone call would be a courtesy... which FIFA has publicly shite on and then challenged him, claiming only THEY have authority over locations of FIFA tournaments. That's not true and if Trump REALLY wanted to stop those games from being held in Boston, he could. He has the authority to make it so. I wouldn't advise him to do it, but if I had people making statements publicly challenging me and calling me out, I'd be tempted. Let them have the tournament and set up ICE around it.

What he chooses to do right now, doesn't necessarily have any bearing on what he legally COULD do. There are lots of things the federal government leaves to the states to implement but could be overridden by federal authority if they decided to step in.
