DeSantis is very capable of winning the nomination because once you get out of the Southeast Trump is going to lose much of his die hard support. MAGA isn't over 50% of the party. At least not officially. It is in certain states. But those states won't get Trump enough delegates. If the rest of the party goes with Ron.. He'll win. As you and I briefly talked about yesterday the current delegate count based on 2020 is:

Trump: 22, winning NH
DeSantis: 294, winning Ca & Fl

or - because we have conflicting Fl polls as I was told just yesterday

Trump: 144, winning Fl & NH
DeSantis: 172, winning Ca

That's up to the voters. Are they loyal to Trump to the point that they want to burn things down and to hell with the consequences if they stay home? I think many of them will but that will turn to regret once the Dems truly assert themselves. However, if MAGA stays home it could be made up for somewhat if Ron is able to court the republicans that didn't vote Trump but voted down ballot R and if Ron can get the Independents. Which is something Trump will likely struggle mightily with.

Because if he waits until 2028 and Trump wins in 2024 he'll just be up against Trump's VP who will have been hand picked by Trump to carry the banner moving forward.
