3/4 of Canadian exports are purchased by the US. Carney is behaving like the biggest fricking moron in the history of politics.

Move the Edmonton Oilers to Houston. There's nothing Strunk could do about it.

When Alberta secedes they can poach the Atlanta expansion team.

Trump is threatening a 100% tariff on Canadian goods. That would literally destroy their economy.

AI said it would be bad, but not a collapse:

quote:

A failed trade deal with the United States will have a severe but not cataclysmic impact on the Canadian economy, likely causing a sharp short-term growth slowdown while avoiding a total long-term collapse. Economists predict the immediate fallout from the dispute could knock Canada's economic growth down to close to zero over the next year, costing the country up to 90,000 jobs and trimming 0.4% off its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).Because Canada sends roughly 70% to 75% of its exported goods south of the border, the economic pain will be highly concentrated but deeply felt across specific sectors and regions

The leaders of our border countries should not be enemies of the President nor vice versa. On a side note, is there a competition for ‘first to economically collapse’? Our debt/GDP ratio is ~125% and theirs is ~110%, so just wondering.

Bessent has recently said that it is not possible to cut our way out of our debt and the only way forward is to grow out of it. So the aggressiveness isn't surprising. Hopefully Carney understands this and stops being stupid. The Canadians don't have another market and they can't just create one overnight.

I wouldn't worry about Canada.

Iran hasen't hollard Calf rope yet.

Why should I care if Canada stands or falls.

Maybe ole Trump is just thinking out loud.

Plenty of work to do back home.

It would certainly help if we froze discretionary spending at current levels for five years.

I've been researching the auto industry in canada
in about 5 years onterio went from 11 car plants, to 7

that also blows thru the suppier chain, too
good jobs have left, and they ain't comin' back,
at least not as union jobs

about 140,000 layoffs since 2020

canada may not collapse, it's death by a million cuts, though

Of course it’s not possible. The FEDGOV yearly spends $2T more than tax receipts, and there is no growing our way out of this. It would require unprecedented, astronomical economic growth in the GDP just to balance the budget. The President is requesting that the debt ceiling be raised another $5T, basically admitting that there will be $2T deficits added to the already $40T+ debt until he leaves office. 1 out of every 5 tax dollars services just the interest alone and that ratio will only increase.

My point was lecturing another country on its looming economic collapse is like a prostitute lecturing another about abstinence. No President or politician can do ANYTHING to reverse it.

There is no doubt about it.

Carney used demagoguery and torpedoed the negotiations to fuel more anti-American sentiment for short term political gain.

The canadian economy will suffer further, but hey the liberals can stay in power and rule over the ashes!

Interesting that coming out of covid our congress moved close to half a trillion discretionary spending to non discretionary, cute move eh...they are a miserable lot.

Rather than that what if we eliminated all of the fraud in Social Security and Medicare as a start

And then get rid of all of the aid that is not absolutely necessary for our people

Just keep running the Canadians right into the arms of the Chinese and the Indians. Brilliant strategy.....

The USA is the rescue swimmer. When we reach the victim they thrash, try to climb on our back and pull us under. Survival for both now requires us to punch them in the face, back away and ask them if they prefer to drown.

If not, listen to instructions.

As ate up with TDS as half of this country is add another 25% and that is the rest of the (free) world. And Carney can do stuff to spite Trump and his countrymen fall in line.

Maybe. But this much is for damn certain: it won't collapse because Carney got them into a stupid fricking war with no end in sight.
