Just let the $600/week federal unemployment expire at the end of the month. People will need to go back to work again to provide for their families and any governors or mayor who continue shutdowns beyond that will be committing political suicide

I believe he meant a federally mandated/encouraged what ever it was shut down.
He is somewhat powerless over what the governors do except I guess he could invoke the infamous interstate commerce clause somehow.
Problem is there will be hundreds of headlines on the lines of "Trump signs the death warrants of thousands!" as soon as he did anything.

I may have misinterpreted your previous post as saying cut all unemployment benefits rather than the COVID based enhancements.
When do they come up for renewal? If he refused to sign, he be blamed by most. People will not blame their governors for unemployment, they will blame the president.

It’s 2020 and Trump’s been president for 3.5 years. He frequently says stupid stuff, and he frequently whines about things that are within his power to change, especially the DOJ. I wish it weren’t the case but I don’t expect him to change at this point. Do you?
