Yes....he really needs to work on his disingenuous lip quiver. Maybe he can also make up a non-existent child for empathy purposes.

I trust his people not so much. But enough to keep him HEAVILY in script when that time comes.
If he says anything off-script when it comes time to do a national eulogy on this Vegas horror, then all his advisers should be fired...by someone.
Then that person should self-fire himself

We really need to give PR their independence. Please let it happen soon.

Well yeah... 16 people vs. thousands. Like in his quote. Which you failed to include.
quote:
The president pointed out that 16 people died in Puerto Rico because of Maria -- a death count far lower than that of “a real catastrophe like Katrina” in 2005. “Sixteen people versus in the thousands,” Trump said. “You can be very proud of all your people.”
I didn't rail on him, or anything like that. I just don't think it was a great look. It almost seems as if he's making light of an event that has ravaged so many people's homes and taken a number of lives.
Yes, it's not as bad as Katrina, but it's absolutely catastrophic. If 16 people would have died in Houston and he said that wasn't a catastrophe I don't think people from the area would have been very happy about it.

frick it. Who needs context anyway?
I watched the whole clip. I actually get the point he was making. But if you can watch it, and understand the point he's making, and not come away with the impression that is was an awkward, clunky way to make that point, then I don't know what to say.

Yeah, that one can compare since that one is just nefarious. This one is unintentional, unforgivably stupid, and shows complete lack of empathy. I'm still stunned that we're stuck with this assclown as President and his opponent is just as nuts and possibly even worse than he is. Shittiest election ever.

Agree with this. I do understand what he was trying to say. It did hurt our budget, and it's not as bad as Katrina. It was just said in an incredibly awkward fashion that did not go over well in the room, and I can understand why.

What do you mean overanalyze? I think that quote is very straight forward. I may be drawing a blank because there's so many to choose from, but I think it's the most appalling thing he's said since he's been elected. He's acting as if they could have moved the island out of the way and is lecturing them for not doing so.
Uh.. is he not comparing death tolls? A totally overbearing hurricane and you only have 16 people killed, vs. hundreds and hundreds in New Orleans which a real catastrophe.
Some of you people are so stupid sometimes.
That's a compliment, by the way. At least that's what my wife tells me when she says that.

I was actually talking about this gold quote of his:
quote:
I hate to tell you Puerto Rico, but you've thrown our budget a little out of whack
Like what the shite? If Hillary started blaming and lecturing Houston for a budget crisis right after Harvey, this board would rightfully flip its shite.

Crass, classless buffoon. Its the best I can do when trying to describe Trump succinctly.
Piece of shite might be better, I dunno.

Did he really say "what's your death toll?"

But if you look at a real catastrophe like Katrina
Many of you like myself know this to be ABSOLUTELY TRUE first hand. Over 1,000 people died in the aftermath of Katrina. We had more people die in Mississippi alone than died in Puerto Rico. Louisiana by far was hit FAR, FAR worse by Katrina than what happened to Puerto Rico.
Just my 2 cents.

Your OP quote left out the next paragraph.
ETA: add the full quote to your OP.
quote:He is complimenting PR for their forward actions of evacuations and what not.
The president pointed out that 16 people died in Puerto Rico because of Maria -- a death count far lower than that of “a real catastrophe like Katrina” in 2005.
“Sixteen people versus in the thousands,” Trump said. “You can be very proud of all your people.”
