I voted for Bill Clinton in 1996.
In 2016, I told people on this board repeatedly that Trump's platform matched that of Clinton. Major social issue was that trump was pro-gay marriage before Clinton was (or needed to be).
Trump has never been conservative nor advertised as such.

Doesn't matter.
He's governed more conservatively than any president in my lifetime (which includes Reagan)

So, why should conservatives support him?
The mid terms are going to be brutal unless Trump is able to run the okie-doke again.

I won’t be satisfied until it’s at 1776 levels. If he doesn’t do that, he’s just not conservative.

Nobody ever considered him conservative.

So why should conservatives support a platform that is Clinton era policies?
I’ve not argued they should or shouldn’t, just stating reality.
The short answer is, no politician aligns 100% with any ideal, so you pick the ones that check the most boxes. The “conservatives” out there have proven to be not at all, so you look to see who will do what they say they will.
Long answer, Trump has some more conservative positions and some not so conservative position. One core position of conservatism is limiting government scope and having it be lean. Well, that is a pillar of Trump’s policies. Now, I think while he has certainly tried doing that and made some good progress, it’s been far from great improvement. Better than we’ve had in decades, but still leaves plenty to be desired.
As to why a conservative “should” support Trump, I would say the argument would be that his stances on trying to reel in government bloat, foreign policy, and overall support for the American businesses would need to outweigh his more democratic positions. If you think they do, then that would be why you would support him.

A corollary point here is that when many Republicans call Trump a RINO, it most certainly is true. Compared to what preceded him, DJT is a RINO.
And that is a good thing. Indeed, Trump’s most enduring appeal is that Trump has enemies in all the right places.

One day you’ll learn we voted for Trump because he’s neither conservative nor liberal. The two far sides who have tds are the ones who always cry about shite but have about 10% support together.

If you are so sure of Trump, why do you dismiss criticisms of him?

So you're saying that's an actual new car sales lot?
