President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised the teenage lifeguard who went viral after rescuing a young boy from towering waves in Santa Cruz, California, saying he wants to invite the teen to the White House and potentially award him a high civilian honor.
The lifeguard, identified as 16-year-old Ryder on social media, was captured in a heart-stopping video Saturday battling massive surf as he repeatedly disappeared beneath crashing waves while maintaining a relentless grip on the child he was rescuing.

Just being able to hold onto the kid he was rescuing was an amazing feat. People severely underestimate the power of crashing waves and water moving like that. Especially with no break in between to regain your footing or get a better grip.

I use to teach water survival at the Local Y.
What that kid dude did that day was heroic.

I don’t recognize your user name, so I’m going to assume this was an attempt to be funny. If not, you’re a complete moron. That day he went into the ocean was a Saturday. California law only limits hours 16 year olds can work to 4 hours during school days. Dumb idiot.

Adrenaline and determination can do amazing things
I’m betting he barely even remembers it. Instinct takes over and you sort of just black out any train of thought and go into survival mode

UPDATE, the Gold Lifesaving Medal can be given to any American who puts their life at risk to save a life at sea. He saved a life at great risk to himself in the Pacific Ocean.
