Do you really not understand that this is an argument petitio principii? It spplies to abortion ONLY because you have POSITED that it applies to abortion.

My point is that God was VERY specific about some absolutely RIDICULOUS minutiae.

Abortion has been common in human history. If it was a matter of any great import to God, He EASILY could have mentioned it with some specificity alongside the whole pork thing.

He did not. One can only assume that He was more concerned with trichinosis than with abortion.

Hey vermin, 2 LA deputies were shot in the head yesterday so BLM tries to block the emergency room exits of the hospital in response.

Yes, I want them dead and I do not care about your specious comparisons to hitler.

You shalt not kill isn't ambiguous. It's actually very explicit. You dont get to pick and choose who it is okay to murder based on your political agenda.

I think the biggest shocker to me is how many leftists are in the MidWest. It’s actually mind blowing imo.

That would be perhaps relevant if that were the actual wording of the Commandment.

The Hebrew verb used in the Torah commandment is usually transliterated to the Roman alphabet as “ratsah.” The Hebrew word which translates best as simple "killing" is transliterated as “harag.”

A word-for-word translation for "ratsah" is impossible, because it was a concept for which there is no perfect analogue in modern English usage. It was a criminal act which is most-closely analogous to our definitions of "murder" meaning that the best translation is "Thou shalt not murder."

Or are you one of those scholars who insists that Moshe probably spoke English?

Again, abortion of unwanted pregnancies was common in the ancient world, and "ratsah" was a serious crime. AGAIN, God went into agonizing detail about unbelievable minutiae. If He felt strongly that the common practice of abortion constituted "ratsah," one would expect Him to have said so SOMEWHERE in the 600,000 words of the Old Testament.

You think God prohibited it because YOU do not like it. You are applying confirmation bias in translating from the Hebrew.

So if i support parts of the BLM agenda, while condemning individual idiots, do I deserve to die Herr gthog?

Flip it. Does everyone in the Klan deserve to die? We can agree they are “filth,” right?

Didn’t God speak in King James English? That’s what I was taught.

Seriously, good exegesis.

Opposing Trump and racism doesn’t make you a “leftist.”

Understanding the concept of envious hating is not a 3rd grade level concept. There are millions of people in the USA who are left behind the success train for a variety of reason, whos can't compete in the complex economies and technological state to which we have evolved. They hate because they have run out of excuses, and can only see their redemption coming by cutting the legs off of those who are running a faster race. That simple. Good people must stand together and fight the tough fight while living in the lap of success. They are looking to devalue everything in our lives, which here to fore, were considered attributes of prosperity. If we stand together and do our own resisting these forces, we stand a chance. If not, strap in, as it is going to be a rough ride! P.S., I am 80 YO, not much can happen to me personally. You with something to lose better wake up!

Ok. I understand you believe the haves are threatened by the have nots.

But this is the question:

So is that a yes or a no?

So in your definition God supported Nazi concentration camps because it was legal in Germany, ie a non criminal act, and he didn’t specifically mention gas chambers?

That’s your position?

The laws of god are subject to the legal whims of man?

quote:

AGAIN, God went into agonizing detail about unbelievable minutiae.

Man did that. God did not.

Don’t confuse ancient Hebrew law with the word of God. And don’t misunderstand why the Old Testament is in the Bible, nor why the New Testament other than the actual gospels are included.

The Hebrew dietary code is not any more the word of God than the Catholic Church selling indulgences or declaring that saying your sins to a human Priest is the only means of forgiveness.

Honest question: Do you believe in God, Hank? Do you practice your faith?

Not remotely. It is almost like you read nothing beyond my screen name and decided to argue with me.

If you believe the Bible, you also believe that God laid down the Law for the Jews. For example, He told them they could not eat anything from the sea that did not have scales and fins (Leviticus). Yeah, the rabbis imbellished it, but the basics are in the Tanakh.

The verb “ratsah” was part of that Law, and it had a specific meaning that we can (roughly) understand today. I say “roughly” because its elements were NOT exactly the same as the elements of our crime of “murder.”

By contrast, the Nazis passed laws directly contrary to God’s Word.

A better analogy would be ... God knowing that the Hebrews routinely killed all adult males in territory they conquered. If He did not specifically condemn it, it would be safe to assume that He did not disapprove ... oops, He TOLD them to do that.

Just like Americans and their abortion laws? Explain to me the difference.

God did no such thing.

And even if you refuse to accept the historical context and man made perversion of laws and battle tactics. God became flesh in Jesus as the way the truth and the life. Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament and Jesus’s words and teachings are what we follow, not ancient practices that stopped thousands of years before Jesus even showed up.

Honest question: Do you believe in God, Hank? Do you practice your faith?
