Smokescreen for what though? Couldn’t he just make an example of China and strengthen trading partnerships with other allies? Maybe he assumed he could pick up some smaller wins to ratchet up pressure against China.
My working theory is that Trump sees this as his moment to assert American dominance as his legacy, and in his mind most of the global trading partners have screwed us (and by extension him) over for years. His work in term 1 was incomplete and consequences be damned. I just hope either the US wins, or his ego doesn’t get us into a tin cup scenario.

Explain why you say this? I’m not flaming, I generally want to understand what the metrics are behind this belief. What is their Achilles heal so to speak?

It seems it is a fortunate moment in time. There appears to be significant weakness and thus leverage for us. Time would be on our side if true. I still can't get over the items they tariffed- mostly agricultural. They have a significant arable land problem This tells me they made a deal with the Canadians. Trump should hit the cannucks hard if they are coordinating economic responses with what's left of Trudeau's communist allies holding power at the moment.
Hard to tell with a command economy (underneath a veneer of capitalism) and access to sharecropper and slave labor and an intel community that has been focused on helping globalists and getting Trump.

Shutting china off from their customer is like depriving them from oxygen…

most of it is that and getting europe to pay for their own defense.
it is somewhat about fairness when it comes to trade but its mianly about the bullshite china does and checking them before they get out of hand
also about breaking that dependence and making sure we can manufacture here again

For 90% of Americans to not pay income taxes, he needs to have a baseline tariff on everyone. He needs to come up with around 500 billion a year or
a little more. Obviously if you just slap a 10% tariff on everyone that would not be enough. So, if that is really his plan then some people have to be tariffed at a higher rate (especially the big exporters).

Demography. It's a combination of the One Child Policy coupled with rapid urbanization. When people lived on farms they had 6-8 kids because they were free labor. When they moved into the cities to take factory jobs assembling widgets, they started having fewer kids. Nobody wants 5 kids when they live in a 800 square foot apartment in Shanghai. It takes 2.1 live births per woman to maintain a population. China's is maybe half that and has been for a while. I've even read that in Shanghai the birth rate is 0.7.....one third the replacement rate. It's the 4-2-1 problem. 4 grandparents, 2 parents, one child. Eventually, that one child is going to be responsible for caring for 2 elderly parents, and maybe even grandparents. Their social safety isn't as robust as ours in the West, so elderly care largely falls on family. People don't want to have kids when they're physically and financially responsible for their elders WHILE trying to hold down a job. And it's a problem that's compounding, meaning that it gets progressively worse with every generation.

And we’ve arrived at that moment.
It was one of the things I loved about his first term. We were WAY overdue for our leadership to knock China down a few rungs and challenge them on some things. I loved it then and I love it now. frick Chi-nah!

What I don't understand is the short and selective memories of the EU and the rest of the world that give China a free pass to do anything despite the fact that they tried and failed to exterminate a great majority of humanity on the planet.
This makes me believe there are more nefarious dealings underlying the current goodwill between the EU and China.
frick them, and they need to be pushed into submission by the whole world for their crimes against humanity. Why hasn't Xi Jinping been summoned by the International Court of Justice in Hague?

Would it be possible to design another virus that attacks people without Chinese DNA markings? We are their largest customer but if we do something to destroy their economy they may release such a virus (if they have one).Like they did in 2020.

The blame was put on China, but the globalists created Covid and released it.
