WHy would Pence not have a vote if the 4 candidates get one?

even if it is a 50/50 tie?

I don't like Murkowski being the deciding one.

Constitution. You really don't want the guy in line for the promotion to decide on things that could get their boss fired. The framers were pretty smart.

it is confusing. It doesn't seem to matter how Murk votes.

With Alexander joining the overwhelming majority of the Senate GOP conference, it now appears there are no more than three Republican votes for witnesses, which means the question would deadlock in a 50-50 tie or fail 49 to 51.

Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Mitt Romney (R-Utah) say they are likely to vote for witnesses while Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) remains the sole undecided vote on the crucial procedural question.

Chief Justice John Roberts conceivably could step in to break a tie vote, but lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say that’s unlikely because it could politicize his role.

The Senate is set to debate and vote on the motion to consider additional evidence on Friday. If it fails, as expected, Republican leaders plan to move as quickly as possible to a final up-or-down vote on the articles of impeachment.

Alexander, a longtime close friend of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), for days had refused to tell reporters and colleagues how he would vote on the crucial question of calling new witnesses and documents for Trump’s trial.

I turned it over to CNN for the Mt and was not disappointed. I could only stomach three minutes of it however.

Fair enough. So does a 100th vote come in elsewhere or is the "50-50 tie" vote not probable?

Dems need 51 votes for witnesses..if 50 it’s a no witness result and no tiebreaker vote

Chief Justice could theoretically break the tie, but that is unlikely. It would politicize his position. No witnesses are called if there is no majority in favor.

Yeah, you have to remove the VP from this altogether.

The candidates would still have to win election; the VP would just have to vote "convict" in the event of a tie, and bingo- he's president.

Is Alaska really a purple state? Why is Murkowski consistently in the forefront of these debates (Kav and impeachment) pretending to be conservative?

I cannot why for Romney’s answer as to why he wants witnesses.

At the end of the acquittal vote I would put an Ad out of the presidential candidates who voted against Trump and tell Americans “they used their office to influence the election by voting to impeach me. They effectively tried to void all of the votes of 60m+ These candidates are the real threat to our constitution and country along with all of their colleagues.”
