Did auto manufacturers not offer fuel efficient vehicle options before CAFE laws were passed?
CAFE laws have given us better cars. Besides even if all the federal ones go away California will still dictate fuel efficiency standards.

Yes. Did fluorescent lighting not exist before 2012?
i never saw a CFL bulb until a rule was passed to phase out incandescent bulbs. that's the result of government intervention.

again, fewer in the market until a mandate.
you are disproving your own point.

on top of that, energy star isn't even a mandate. it's a seal that says a product met certain qualifications. it provides consumers with more knowledge.
if manufacturers to create their own 'energy efficiency' benchmarks, which will surely differ by maker, with no way to ensure actual efficiency, all it does is cause confusion.
all this move does is take away a label that gives consumers more info.

They've been around since the 70s.

Maybe, but all the mandate does is attempt to speed the inevitable at enormous cost to tax payers and consumers. They add nearly 4K to the price of the average vehicle and that is almost never recovered in fuel savings and that doesn't include the taxpayer cost of regulation. Plus the tech is hasty, expensive, and often wrong. The engine servicing and reliability issues we've seen with ethanol being introduced into gasoline, especially with small engines, have cost consumers untold billions.

I'll get worked up over this when you show me where this program is set forth in the Constitution.
Sounds like Trump is intending for these agencies to get back to their core functions and dial back the extraneous, intrusive bullshite.
EPA = clean air and clean water

EPA T4 on diesel is killing the marine industry. It's bad enough on an on road or stationary application. Handling corrosive exhaust fluid on a boat is a major cost adder

That and when are they gonna make a gas can again that you can use that actually pours gas.

the government doesn't any longer need to make demands on appliances
The government wasn't making any "demands", it was only setting a standard.

They weren't concerning themselves with energy efficiency before this program. I think it's a great program, I have paid close attention to it and try to use energy efficient products as much as possible - but here's the rub:
I do it to save money on my electric bill, not to reduce emissions. This program seems like it would be better suited as an overall national energy policy that could be through the Department of Energy. As it stands now, however, is that the DOE pretty much only concerns themselves with nucular energy.
We've been needing a comprehensive energy policy/strategy since the first oil embargo of 1973.
