so, I have to admit that this looks pretty bad & I am very disappointed by this

Trump has still kept more promises than any pol I have ever seen; but I am frustrated to see this

Sure, I can understand him not wanting to work with the Dems on anything based on their hateful rhetoric and actions. I also seriously doubt that Nancy or any of the Dems have a plan that would truly help the average person; but at a minimum, this is a bad look for POTUS

anyone have any insight on this?

LINK

quote:

President Trump is backing off his 2016 campaign pledge to negotiate drug prices for Medicare with pharmaceutical companies, drawing fire from Democrats after months of talks on the issue with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

During his campaign, Trump famously broke with Republican orthodoxy with his support for having the government negotiate lower drug prices.

“When it comes time to negotiate the cost of drugs, we are going to negotiate like crazy,” Trump said in New Hampshire in early 2016.

Pelosi’s staff spent months over the course of this year trying to get White House support for her measure to allow the government to negotiate prices for up to 250 drugs per year, with tough financial penalties for companies that refused to come to the table.

But after months of holding his fire, Trump is now publicly bashing Pelosi’s bill. And while Trump still talks about the need to lower drug prices in general, he has not proposed an alternative drug price negotiation plan of his own.

Trying to be honest here, he's had much more to deal with than any President than I can remember. Afterall Congress has been extremely supportive of his election.

Putting price controls on drugs is a bad idea

We should be finding ways to reduce the costs of manufacturing drugs

sure, but this is not just about price controls

It is about drugs costing less in Canada and overseas than they do here

It is about keeping his promise to negotiate to bring prices down

that should be right in Trump's wheelhouse

I don't know what the answer is to bring R&D costs down

He hasn't retreated on his pledge .... he's just not going to get sucked into the Pelosi bullshite.

Trump will get the prices lowered in his own way and with aplomb.

Manufacturing has never been cheaper and he knows that. He also knows he has to walk the fine capitalist line between innovation, R&D and stockholders while appeasing the general public who are being gouged by drug companies only to see the same companies sell to Europe and Canada at greatly reduced prices.

Trump will get it done, he's not retreating he's just regrouping and making his game plan ready for a big win.

Right at this moment he has some big fish to fry. He'll get'er done though. Just be patient. This crap didn't get screwed up over three years time .... it ain't gonna get fixed any faster.

As my Grandpappy used to say, sometimes you gotta make a mess to fix a mess.

Maybe it's a bad bill like obama care.

“Pelosi and her Do Nothing Democrats drug pricing bill doesn’t do the trick. FEWER cures! FEWER treatments!” Trump tweeted on Friday “Time for the Democrats to get serious about bipartisan solutions to lowering prescription drug prices for families.”

Pelosi’s

A legit moron

So are the rest of her party. Complete imbeciles. I wouldn’t look at anything they write either. Look at them, A big bunch of dumbs. Literally. Look what we allowed them to do to our country.

That should be all the insight necessary.

Without knowing what Pelosi has in her bill, I’ll defer to our Orange Man Bad before jumping ship. Knowing her, there is probably a catch bc we all know she doesn’t GAF about saving us money

There is no telling what is in her bill. You have to pass it to no what's in it.

I don't either but IMO this is needed before considering price controls.

I've been in the clinical research field for almost 20 years, drugs, devices and biologics. I have yet to work on a product that has gone to market. Nine out of ten drugs fail during development. Cost to bring a new chemical entity to market (accounting for failures) is over $2 billion. So I don't begrudge a company trying to make that money back.

I don't either, but I DO begrudge them selling the same shite to foreigners for less than we pay

why the hell do we need to subsidize health care for the rest of the world

and, as I said earlier, I don't trust Nancy or ANY of the Dems to do the right thing

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the other countries have price-control laws, correct? The argument is, if the USA takes the same route, there is no profit margin, or very little, therefore no incentive to spend millions to POSSIBLY get a drug to market.

“Trump draws ire after shitting solid gold bricks in the hood, not platinum”

This would be your headline if the above were to occur. Take your insight from there.

Just because he doesn’t wanna do what Pelosi wants doesn’t mean he’s not sticking to his promise.... fwiw there’s a senate drug pricing bill being worked on that can actually pass

What's really annoying is when NIH (tax payer funded) research is used to develop a drug and then the pharma company has the nerve to charge obscene amounts for the drug when they didn't incur the R & D costs that they might normally since it was taxpayer subsidized.
