Much like the two of the most important founding fathers - Jefferson and Madison - I am all for drawing a hardline between the government and religion. No need to worry which incremental step will slide to theocracy when you simply don’t allow any of it. Also, as a Christian, I have no interest in the government gaining a foothold of control in my religion. For instance, who would choose the curriculum for this class? Are we okay if the government creates a curriculum which teaches that nothing in the Bible actually occurred and it showed only be viewed as folklore?

If the government was incapable or not willing to impose its will as it pertains to Christianity on schools in an era when America was significantly more Christian, what makes you think they could achieve that now in our secular times?

Bur were there classes?

No, but there were philosophy, history and sociology classes and much more. How can one be so upset with studying the Bible, the most printed book in history and one with such a strong influence on our laws, culture and people?

I already know what Slippery Slope means. This doesn't fit that criteria.
This would be like worrying that your son would turn gay because he listens to Elton John music!

I've been known to do that from time to time. You'll have to refresh my memory.

would allow public schools to offer elective classes on the New and Old Testaments.

Who would have a problem with this?

Our country was founded in this. In God we trust.

I've already stated this was an absurd exaggeration to illustrate the other posters equally absurd point.
Obviously I don't equate porn with teaching children about sex.

I don't understand how any student could have a comprehensive understanding of American history and it's founding while excluding the contributions of bible and Christianity?
It would be like studying German history and never mentioning Hitler or the NAZI'S.
