Im torn on this actually. I am a firm believer in the Bible and Jesus Christ.
But if we allow this, doesnt this open up a big can of worms. Will Judiasm, Hinduisn, Islam then all be offerer in the classroom as well.

Why bother putting bible classes in schools when literally every kid in America has access to free bible classes on Sundays?

I am a firm believer that every public HS should offer an elective in the social studies dept called 'comparative religions'.
It should include Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hindu and Buddhism.
Even an atheist cannot consider himself an intellectual if he is not well versed in these religions and their historical significance.

I've studied all of these as a Christian. What's wrong with offering any of these for study if they aren't mandatory?

Why teach sex education in school when every I-phone has porn? Goofy is as goofy does.

Why are any of those worse than Christianity?

You cannot understand world history without a basic knowledge of these faiths. Studying and learning about these faiths isn't endorsing any of them.

What an odd comparison for you to make. Porn sells a fantasy, kind of like religion.
Teaching religion objectively and independent of Christianity would be useful.

Lawyers will profit
I think it is nice but unforced turnover of taxpayer money (lawsuits from godless single moms). Assuming church would come for free

Back in my day we didn't have sex ed and we didn't have I-phones. We learned about sex from the illustrations on the bathroom walls.

I know it's terrible to teach kids to do the right thing.
Posted on 2/3/19 at 9:49 am to MrLarson
I'm ok with that.
It honestly surprises me that some of you would want something you believe to be so important taught by public educators, though.

I was using absurdity to point out the absurd.

Sure, and maybe unintentionally, you contradicted your argument.

pushing for legislation that would allow public schools to offer elective classes on the New and Old Testaments.
Why wouldn’t it be allowed? The Bible is an incredibly written, historical document. So even if the students elects to study it it’s somehow illegal?

Liberals would demand muslim classes as well be available

Your argument has been that Christianity as practiced should be taught because it improves one's enjoyment of life and makes them a better person. Sex education doesn't teach kids how to better enjoy sex.

Don't teach it from a perspective of trying to convert people. Teach it(all of them) from more of a history perspective.
