Trump made the announcement during a meeting with industry executives at the White House, arguing that domestic producers have been treated very unfairly by previous administrations.
“What’s been allowed to you go on for decades is disgraceful,” he said at the meeting. “And when it comes to a time when our country can’t make aluminum and steel and somebody said it before and I will tell you, you almost don’t have much of a country. Because without steel and aluminum, your country is not the same. We need it. We need it even for defense, if you think, we need it for defense.”
“We need great steel makers. Great aluminum makers for defense. So, we will probably see you some time next week. We will be signing it in. You have protection for the first time in a long while and you are going to regrow your industries. That’s all I’m asking. You have to regrow your industries.”
The rates for aluminum will be 10 percent, while steel will be affected at a rate of 25 percent, and have “no endpoint,” according to Fox News’ John Roberts.

Damn, talking about taking citizens' guns, imposing up to 25% tariffs on commodities...
This ain't your father's conservatism.

Is it currently a free market? Are any of their competitors being subsidized by their respective governments in any way?

And international financiers everywhere wept

I support charging the same tariff each individual country charges ours.

25% on steel? How is this going to affect the price of goods composed of steel?

I get what you're saying. But would you consider that free market conservatism ends at our countries border and when our potential enemies profit off their slave like labor laws and our tax dollars?
I like free market conservatism when it's a level playing field and we all follow the same laws. How can you call it 'Free Market' when we are hamstrung by political regulation and they aren't?

Our purchasing power just got eroded away a little more. Yay.

So much for being a conservative.

Yeah when you're competing against slave labor it's a little tough. I'm really interested to see the results of these economic policies in the modern world, Trumpenomics is gonna be studied for quite a while once he's done

Agreed. When the first economic protections levied against the Chinese for solar production were announced, all of my previous (layperson) economic understanding said that it wouldn't end well for consumers or producers here in the states. Lo and behold, a Chinese company announced that they would open up shop on American soil to produce solar panels. I don't quite get it.
