He saw what it was doing to the economy and people and companies were not on board with it, so he paused. China will simply back their tariffs off and we return to where we were.

regardless on which side you think, "planned all along" or "caved" the measure will be determined on if we get more favorable/equal deals in the end. if we return to status quo, then he will have failed. if we end up with zero tariff barriers, the it will be a major win. likely it will be somewhere in between

One of his better moves honestly. Idk why supporters or detractors are upset. He seems to realize this tarrifs idea is stupid to actually implement. Hence his initial hesitations and the pull back of tarrifs for everyone that wasn't China.
