If tweet fails to load, click here. I read the criteria that was posted in the comments. It’s crappy and doesn’t follow the rubric much. Her paper is in the comments, but I’m driving and can’t post it now. It’s in four or five different parts. I’ve yet to see the original article that she was responding to.
The only thing I read about the article is that in one part, it stated that teasing reinforces gender stereotypes. she did mention that part and says teasing is OK because God wants females to be traditional and male to be traditional

The rubric itself is crappy.
Subjectively, it may rate a 10/25 or a 50/25…depending upon the reviewer. It’s why rubrics are used.
However, given that she ticks off all of the boxes on the rubric. It should have been a 25/25, my personal thoughts aside.
The rubric design sucked. The gay cross dresser is bad at his job. Go figure. DEI?

I did remove my scores because I’ve yet to see the article that she was supposed to respond to. Based on what I’ve seen (without seeing the original article) this student definitely does not deserve a zero. She may or may not deserve a failing grade. Graduate student teacher needs to go.

I agree with you.
Ironically, this incident only magnifies why rubrics are needed imho.

Remember, if you oppose the idiocy, you are in a cult and should be shot in the neck.
Every progressive voter you know agrees with this notion.
Oh, and you are a fascist.

The initial assignment especially for what is most likely a lower level psychology class doesn't really make sense in the first place so I assume it's why this will be such an issue.
Tuned a psych class into a sociology one solely to get reaffirmation

And that's the tip-off.
Getting a round zero is the professor claiming that she met none of the requirements of the rubric, which clearly isn't the case.
The writing may be terrible and it may deserve a failing grade, but a grade of zero is like tipping a quarter when your service is really bad at a restaurant. You tip a quarter rather than nothing because you want the waitress to know you didn't just forget to leave a tip.
The professor gave a zero rather than a score that indicated that the writing was actually compared to the rubric to make the same sort of statement. The rubric was not consulted and the assignment was graded on It's emotions instead.
Also, you have to consider this. Relatively few young people can write anymore. And by that, I mean, at all. They don't even have the attention span to read a whole book anymore, much less write an essay on it. This is well documented and has been recognized for at least 10 years.
So as bad as that students writing was, I will guarantee you that some significant percentage of the class' writing was just as bad. Unless they all got zeros...

When I was in 7th grade in a New Orleans public school in the 70s, we had just begun to diagram sentences when the liberals decided to change the way they taught English, and started teaching what they called "Master Learning", which had nothing at all to do with diagramming sentences, or even identifying nouns and verbs. By 11th grade, there were still students who were struggling to distinguish between nouns/verbs and subjects/objects.
What had worked for over 100 years was tossed out in favor of an experiment - which failed.
The one "fact" that can never be challenged is that intelligence is not impacted by race/sex/ethnicity/etc. If a pedagogical method produces medium-level literacy for 75% of white people but only 25% for non-whites then the method is defective. A method that produces 40% success for whites and 15% for non-whites is more equitable and thus "objectively" superior.

I just simply can’t believe any of you are being honest with yourself thinking that essay has any place in the context of responding to a research paper about the psychological effects of societal pressure

A legitimate statement in her response to a paper on social behavioral science:
"Women naturally want to do womanly things because God has created us with those womanly desires in our hearts"
This is circular and literally means nothing.
Imagine going a source to learn about cats only for the cat behavior section to read:
“Cats want to do cat things because God has created them with catly desires in their heart.”
And the ENTIRE essay is like that.

Saw the story and was ready to defend the instructor. Then (unlike 90% of the posters who just want to make a political point) I saw the grade and read the paper.
The instructor was 100% wrong AND the paper was crap. I've never given a zero grade for a writing assignment that was turned in. Based on the rubric I wouldn't have given a good grade, but it wouldn't be close to a zero.
Second, anytime I give a really bad grade I provide a clear justification in my response, for 2 reasons. First, to help the student do a better job next time, and second, to put something in the record if the student decides to challenge/appeal the grade.
