Toyota Distribution Center serves watermelon at Juneteenth event...is this racist?

I'm not sure when, where, or how watermelon was tied in a racial way to black Americans but it seems pretty stupid to me. Back when I was a little boy in the 60's and 70's our family and our neighbors (white folks) ate a fricking truckload of watermelon in the summer but somehow the poor ol watermelon became a symbol of racism......and we ate even more sweet corn on the cob, and don't forget the fried fricking chicken, mashed potatoes and greens......hold the chitlins.....just never cared much for chitlins.
Any way, this report is from Fox 4 News in KCMO...... you decide if there was racism involved because a company served watermelon at a Juneteenth event.

It is a pretty dumb suggestion. Colleges do it at recruiting events all the time. I check the watermelon shelf every time I'm at the grocery store.

Cold watermelon on a hot day is about as American as it gets. It's not racial. Now, if all they had is watermelon then it would look bad. But if it was part of a large spread, then no one should draw any conclusions. It's just a standard choice this time of year.

Used to have em iced down when we were kids at toledo bend on memorial day and forth of july..

I'm white as fricking glue and I juice 1/8 of a watermelon daily. Wife and I go through 2 watermelons a week.
God forbid they eat something healthy instead of complaining that they all live in "food deserts" while smashing down 4 Whopper meals a week.
