This is the first correct thing you've said.

Maybe I assumed someone taught you grammar. Of course, if your grasp of history is an indicator, I shouldn't be surprised.

That's my bad.

Everything I've said has been correct. You've apparently and admittedly been arguing an entirely separate point.

The best thing to come from this discussion is that I can point right back here the next time you try to pull your Muh History Degree bullshite.

No, it hasn't. You're arguing that Sherman was given the opportunity to command Grant but turned it down. That is an incorrect statement. Sherman deciding to serve under Grant despite outranking him is the correct statement.

You can say and do whatever you please, my friend. It won't make you correct.

And I'm correct. The question you asked in response to that tells me you don't know anything about it.

Read a book.

Of course it won't. What a silly statement.

No, you're not. You can repeat this over and over but it won't make it true. But by all means, continue to double down. I enjoy engaging in this discussion, troll or no troll.

I would suggest you do this as well. I would suggest starting with Grant and Sherman: The Friendship That Won the Civil War by Charles Bracelen Flood. I relied on it heavily when I did my research for my thesis paper back in the day.

Let's not lose sight of what kicked this off:

quote:

I'd still follow him into a fight over Grant.

...and the best you and your history degree could come up with was "Sherman knew Grant was a better politician."

Holy. shite.

That should make anyone prefer to follow Sherman even more.

Yes, I am. You asking for letters from Halleck demonstrates that you don't have a fricking clue, my dude.

I'd be genuinely surprised if you could find a book about Sherman that I haven't read.

I'm glad you finally abandoned your failed and ahistorical argument. Good on you abandoning your pride in favor of rationality.

I mean...Sherman would follow Grant into a fight over Sherman. We have his own words:

"I'm a damned sight smarter than Grant; I know more about organization, supply and administration and about everything else than he does; but I'll tell you where he beats me and where he beats the world. He don't care a damn for what the enemy does out of his sight but it scares me like hell."

I would argue the opposite as Halleck was their commanding officer in February 1862. If Sherman was offered command of an army in the Western Theater over Grant, that offer would have come from Halleck and there would be some documentation in writing of such a request.

That didn't happen. I'm just keeping the reason you fell on your face in the first place at the top.

You're embarrassing yourself.

We have Grant's words too. Big fricking shocker that two dudes who respected each other, had good things to say about each other.

Seriously, who gave you a fricking degree?

Both served prior to and beyond February 1862.

Come on.

So far so obvious. What's your point?

I mean everything I'm saying is literally taken verbatim from the books you've claimed to have read. So either you're some kind of gnostic who possesses secret knowledge unknown to his biographers or your reading comprehension skills are below average.

However, there could be a third option and you're just trolling. Either option is fine with me.
