For those who complain about the energy issues, what about the possibility of AI solving fusion and transforming energy solutions. Would that in itself be worth the worry ?

Have you ever considered the possibility that this snake oil can cure my cancer?

It’s bizarre seeing the party of science become luddites.

I can acknowledge it's a very helpful tool for analyzing data and building predictive models. I'm skeptical about its abilities to create and innovate, let alone solve nuclear fusion.

Who knows what the next 5-10 years will look like regarding AI, but the proposed development slowdowns for "safety" definitely seem like a cover for the companies not hitting the expected milestones of progression.

Sounds great! Until the AI's decide they need to energy for more compute power and use it for themselves.

I was skeptical until I started using Claude for work. Opus 5 is essentially like having a new graduate at your finger tips for white collar work. And it’s only gotten better in the 6 months I’ve used it. It will absolutely affect a lot of our economy. Will it cure cancer? I have my doubts.

It may. And it may not be for human benefit whatsoever.

A machine can thrive in conditions no human can survive.

It's always a double edged sword.

Kill us all, nope. A lot of people were dumb enough to give their DNA the 23 and Me. So now they have the perfect blueprint to decide to kill whatever portions of the society that they want to kill black people. White people, stupid people, gay people. Whatever group and genetic markers, they decide, they want to get rid of they'll find a virus that kills just those folks. So nope not everybody.

My question with AI is what's the end goal with it? Eventually it will replace far more jobs than it creates. What will happen when a hefty percentage of the population has their jobs replaced by it? It might seem impossible now but look what AI was 10 years ago compared to what it is now. In another 10 years we might all be obsolete.

I don’t think it’ll “cure cancer” yet.

I do think it’ll be EXCELLENT for things like reading and analyzing 50 million ekg and then helping doctors realize where an arrhythmia is originating from before they even have to go in for an ablation.
