Did you see all of the recorded tape? No you didn’t..that bastard turned and blocked the entire side the highway. Right into the path of the van. The van driver didn’t stand a chance at 70 plus.
The truck driver never looked at on coming traffic. As a former CDL driver….the bastard needs to be hung.

I respect CDL drivers! Impossible job and always have people looking to sue you.
I assume the argument will be made by an expert that it took the semi to go from a stop to the position on the road about 4-5 seconds so the question is when is that movement visible at 70 mph and it generally is about 2.5 seconds for perception and reaction so there should have been 1 second of braking before impact
That is the argument I expect

When the turn is made, the first view of the van is prior to the turn.
The turn is sudden…..were the turn indicators on or did he just turn into the path of the van? He turned into the path and never looked back at the oncoming van. When I was driving, I would look back to make sure that 45-55 feet of trailer behind my cab would have an open path.
The van driver should have been prepared for the truck to make a mistake too. She didn’t seem to slow, however, his entire action was illegal. “Official use only” screams no turn.

I understand that it was an accident born out of ignorance and stupidity and 99% likely without malice.
But it was a person who shouldn’t be here most likely killing somebody who shouldn’t have been here.
Not minimizing anything. All of their lives matter and they were made in the image of God.
If their countries hadn’t have been such shitholes and our leaders would have been more selective about who we let in 3 more of God’s creation would be alive and one more person would not have this guilt for the rest of his life.
I understand an American truck driver could have made the same mistake. I understand a vacationing family from Mexico, Germany, Japan, or Egypt could have been the victims. But the fact of the matter is that day could have been entirely avoided if we were 50% more discriminate about who we let in the county.

I had an accident on the Florida Turnpike that might be similar although opposite.
I was in the left lane heading northbound in front of me in the right lane was a vehicle and they went from the right hand crossing over to enter the median to make an illegal term and when they applied their brakes to stop the boat was in the left lane
I jammed on my brakes but could not swerve to avoid ended up doing a 360 at 60 miles an hour and the people in the vehicle said they just changed lanes to avoid a car that cut them off told the police officer no way they could be perfectly stopped in the medium turn on if that was true
