Can’t figure out what mine does. Run by an outside management group. About 200 homes at $200 per year equals $40,000 annually. There is no pool or anything like that, just three small lakes/ponds. They put new gravel on the paths around the lakes every few years. Seems like good business if you can get it.
You can possibly look it up on Guidestar if it’s a 501(c)(3). If they fill out a Form 990, you should be able to get it on there for free. Not sure if they will if those are its only revenues. Might qualify for the postcard.

I just signed a purchase agreement on a home with an excellent HOA. Neighborhood has 20 year old homes all the way to new builds but every yard and landscaping is immaculate. No cars parked in the streets except for maintenance workers. One of the houses I looked at in there was extremely shitty on the inside and backyard. It’s been vacant for a while but you’d never know it from the front. A lady who lives in the subdivision told me the HOA stayed on her until she got her mailbox fixed. I have no problem with it.

I will be extremely cautious about buying into another HOA community.
Much better if run by a professional management company, but board members can still be pricks. I have never been cited or had any problem, but know people in my neighborhood that have been screwed by over zealous Architectural Control Committee.

I absolutely love hoa! I would never live in one but I love hearing the horror stories about them.

And at times necessary when you are protecting your $900,000 investment. Sometimes I hated them, other times I didn't. I like mine now.

No greater warning of the dangers of authoritarian rule exists than the neighborhood HOA.
It’s a contract not a system of government. You literally have to completely consent to HOA regulations

There is nothing like paying someone to tell you what to do with the property you own. I would hate a neighbor that junked up the yard beside me, but he pays the note not me, so I really can't tell him shite about how to manage his property.

I love the “I don’t get why anyone would buy in a HOA ‘hood” responses.
If you actually don’t get it, you’re a retard.

It’s basic contract law. Some you guys act like it’s understanding nuclear fission.

Meh, they have their place.
Never underestimate the trashiness or level of stupidity that your neighbors may have

Are you sure? Lol! I bet there’s some homes I could show you that you’d be pissed if they were your neighbors and you were trying to sell your home.
You have a right to property, not resale value.
