And that could apply equally to the United State’s perpetual intervention in Middle Eastern affairs. The Cold War geopolitical factors that led to constant U.S meddling in these ancient sectarian rivalries have long since passed.

Huge Cult for sure. The two-party team-cult system is one big sham. The overlords don't even care that many realize it's all scripted theater. I am amazed that most people don't realize the rallies, he rhetoric, the Kangaroo Courts -- all for show to rile up the teams. DC has out-done the WWE.
All that said, DC boasts several cults; and then there are TD's own cultists as witnessed on this thread. I presume one to be an obvious medicated escapee from Bellevue Hospital.
