IIRC he did indicate that he is a oceanographer (Phd) so hopefully all this means is he's getting ready for a long excursion where he will be out of pocket
Yeah I hope you're right, but this is just one of those things I rather be safe about.

Given the timing (right after Trump win), suddenness; lack of detail, and the atypical tone, it just seems concerning. And I don't mean this as an insult, but he does seem emotionally volatile at times. I just have a terrible feeling, and I have a moral and ethical (given my profession) to not ignore that feeling.

I hear ya.

Unfortunately I don't know him in real life and have no way of contacting him. If I knew how I would.

I did at first, although I found that surprising anyways.

But this was what struck me as odd:
quote:

I love this country, it had given me
The whole statement in general is odd but especially the past tense usage.

Hopefully he is just traveling abroad.

Even then, I can't recall a post by him that had such a positive and reflective tone; then the "leaving" part of it just seemed strange too.

I do overthink things, but my potential concern is something I have to unfortunately deal with professionally on occasion so I'm probably hyperfocused on it.

As an actual LeBron fanboy, I'm well aware. And again those posts are so different than his OP.

I actually found his Gmail address that he uses on here so I reached out to him just to make sure.

I probably (and hope) I will just end up looking like an overconcerned weirdo.

You are a stats guy. What were some of the most surprising stats/numbers/data points from election night, in your opinion?

I hope all is well with him. I just didn't like the finality of his post. I think he is om but I'd sure like to know for sure.

Well normally I don't want to look like one and just can't help it, but I prefer that in this situation

Same here, expecially given the timing and lack of details.

It's probably obvious, but I don't know what OM stands for.

They are probably pretty obvious but two stood out to me:

1. The disparity between the electoral college share and the popular vote share. I mean in 2000 when Gore won the popular vote but lost the EC, his pop vote margin +0.5% was only slightly different than his EC margin -1.5% a 2% absolute difference.

If Trump wins Michigan, as expected, and loses the popular vote by 1.2%, the EC difference (13.8%) will result in an overall difference of 15%.

2. The pattern of the returns in the swing states. With Virginia, and to a lesser extent Michigan, Trump either gained or maintained his lead in the late returns. Usually given the reporting lag of heavy D areas, it seems like the Rs get a big lead and then try to hold on as that lead shrinks. Maybe stayed are getting more efficient with their returns, but it was a striking difference from previous elections.

It's been a tough road, patriot. We aren't done. It will take patriots to fix this shite. Get a nap(I know, no naps) but we have a harder road now, brother.

Our kids & grandchildren are counting on us.

We have a few more things to do, it's our yoke. Let's answer.

We owe it, it was given to us. Let's give back. It will be our legacy.

Never noticed this thread until I swung by the Help Board.

I'm sure the Cpt is fine. I always felt a lot of his posts were tongue-in-cheek so I don't think anything drastic is going on and I certainly hope not. He is probably just moving on to the next phase as all of us here will do eventually. Or maybe a job in the Trump White House.

Still, at the risk of ruining one hell of a mic drop, give us a quick update, Cpt!
