I understand today EVERYTHING is racist, but let’s put that aside momentarily.

This specific event is racist why?
Bad white cop, black petty criminal?
That it?

The narrative is that THIS is common and blacks are hunted by cops daily, but statistics don’t support.

I understand the agenda at work promoted by the media and politicians and honestly it’s working because I know people that never bought into this crap but are now starting to believe this fairy tale.

But what makes this event racist specifically?
Wouldn’t the officer had to have had specific anti-black motives (and maybe he did, but that’s not been shown as of today).

Why is the narrative accepted so easily and broadly now.

No shite, think I lost a best friend today. Basically called me a racist bc I was saying police brutality needs to be addressed but it shouldn't be a black vs white issue.

Yeah he's a liberal but we've always had productive, civil debate. It seems lately though he has been following the MSM narratives.

I’m seeing it too. More and more.
Otherwise intelligent people who grew up in the real world and now - its like the invasion of the body snatchers.

I don’t recognize some of these people anymore .

Obviously racism is an issue in life, but a good question to ask someone who thinks police brutality is purely a race issue is this:
Who gets roughed up by cops more, white men or black women?

Wouldnt passage of a reparations act make all this just go away ?

I've been (illegally) detained on the side of I10 for hours by Texas patrol. After I finally gave him permission to search my vehicle and he didn't find anything I was let go with a warning for speeding.

I've been tackled and kneed by cops, resulting in a fractured rib. For filming the police beating someone up.

I've been harassed multiple times while just riding my bicycle, including given a field sobriety test.

He knows this. He knows I dislike the police. You can search my post history.

I don't want division (black vs white).

The statistics do support it in Minneapolis, since you asked about this specific case.

In that city the statistics say that black people are 13 times more likely to be killed by police than white people.

Excessive force by LEOs has been a documented problem in Minneapolis for at least 25 years.

And from Wikipedia: "In 2016, a study commissioned by the City's Police Conduct Oversight Commission found that making a misconduct complaint at most Minneapolis Police precincts or online resources was difficult if not nearly impossible."

"Between 2012-14 Minneapolis police arrested blacks nearly ten times more for low-level offenses than whites."

"In 2012-14 the incarceration rate for blacks was nearly ten times that of the whites."

This city has long documented problems with LE in general and specifically LE and their black community.

Probably only a few actually get killed in unjustified situations like the one in question, but unequal protection under the law seems to be a problem there.

Do the statistics show the rate of crimes committed black vs white ?

I was curious about that myself, but I'll bet you my bank account that when we finally find that number, it's not going to be 13x.

Want to bet?

Good post- but the post after yours asks a natural followup.

Stats suggest blacks commit a disproportionate % of crime thus leading to more interactions with LE.

What’s the racial makeup of Minneapolis ?

Wikipedia stats can be skewed to support one viewpoint over another, so no, no thanks to your eager wager.

Black people, who make up 19% of the population, make up 62% of the arrests. White people are most of the victims. Why aren't white people protesting the plague in their midst?

The only real argument here is that MAYBE a white dude would not have been treated like that. I think it's a fair argument but totally speculative.

Unlike the Arbery situation, I don't think "but for the cameras" makes a difference from a racial perspective. Meaning I think we'd have never heard about this regardless of whether it was a white guy or black guy dead but for the video. It's not like the boys in blue would own up to murdering a white guy on the street, either.

I’ve had run-ins with bad cops. Granted I’m alive, but they crossed the line with me and with friends.

I see something like this and my first thought is - bad cop and he got caught. Not racism.

Your post is solid and I get it.
It’s the speculation, but it’s DANGEROUS speculation presented as FACT.

Yeah, I don't think there is much chance that it's some sort of nefarious "I want to harm black people" racism.

I could buy that it's partially the product of prejudice - as in "I deal with these guys all day every day and I hear them plead and bitch and I am calloused to their shite because they'll frick me the first chance they get."

That's not at all a defense of the cop nor a prediction about what happened, but that's the type of latent bias I could see being legitimate.
