My point is that most American “conservatives” are fine with the state government to answer a lot of questions.

This is objectively wrong. Not recognizing marriage or having a definition at all is small government. SCOTUS didn't get rid of marriage as a legal term, they just forced a definition on the rest of the country. The government still has the power to define who can and can't get married, you just like the definition better now.

Conservatives want smaller, more responsible government that actually represents the people involved.

That means state and local over federal. They don't care if the State or city is strict, because you can leave if things get out of hand.

The dumbest thing you can do is have two parties and one government to represent almost 400 million of the most diverse people on the planet. Its not working.

A large central government is always oppressive. Every time.

Because they're constitutional republicans. Once again, I ask you what alternative you offer?

IIRC he thinks the federal government is more efficient and works better than state governments.

No, I'm not kidding.

Gay marriage, abortion, guns, etc should be local and state issues.

It’s my understanding that this classification was based on a European left-right political/economic scale, which is further left overall than ours. According to an American classification, they are both left wing ideologies because they both involve big government control over political/economic systems. Fascism involves some private market with the government picking winners and losers and the winners colluding with the government to push competitors out of the market through regulation. Communism typically forbids private markets or private ownership in general. This is more of a total government political/economic system; thus, it is further left than Fascism.

This chart is very outdated. How old is it?

The current progressive crop are very authoritarian and do not belong in the upper left quadrant. That section would be more for classic liberals like Elon Musk, Bill Maher, and the like.

AOC and her progressive band of freaks belong down there with Stalin.

And once again we are back to the Incorporation Doctrine, a pox upon the Constitution if ever there was one.

SHOULD states be able to make their own laws (in this area and others)? Yes. But so long as SCOTUS holds to the (erroneous and ill-conceived) Incorporation Doctrine, the states' ability to do so will remain limited.

My alternative would be that once you get something back to the state level, don’t use local government to oppress individual rights.

My POINT is that neither major party is anti-big government. They both use the federal government when they can and only seem to cry about state rights when they think their state will do something different that they want.

I think it would be more accurate to say that they would prefer that the state government do so than that the federal government do so.

I suspect there are STILL different legal requirements in various states. SCOTUS allows those because politically it only cared about gay marriage.

In any event my point stands. This argument that "allowing gay marriage is small government and not doing so is big government" is objectively false.

Better question - why is the klan lumped in with the right wing?

America's first "progressive" President (Wilson) was a HUGE fan of the klan.
