A good friend of mine was driving to Lafayette recently and pulled into a gas station in New Iberia around 11 PM. He gets out and puts the nozzle in his tank and starts filling it, but gets back into the drivers seat and closes the door of his truck to send a text. As he’s sitting there, a black guy walks up to his drivers side window pointing a pistol at him and demands his wallet. He says, “Okay, let me get it.” He reaches over to his console and instead of his wallet, he grabs a .357 snub nose revolver and points it right at the guy’s face and says, “How does it feel to have a gun pointed at your face motherfricker? You wanna have a shootout bitch?” The guy’s eyes opened like saucers and there was a brief Mexican standoff, and he slowly backed away and ran off.

I was like, “WTF? Are you retarded? Why didn’t you just blast him in the face as soon as you pulled the gun? He says, “Dude, as I’m reaching for the gun, all I could think about was Rittenhouse and being prosecuted for killing this piece of shite. I was more afraid of going to prison than being shot by him.”

I still called him a moron and to thank his lucky stars that the guy didn’t blast him as soon as he saw the pistol.

So that’s where we are today. People too afraid to defend themselves and risking their lives because they fear going to prison over it.

I am of the mindset if I'm pulling it (especially in that situation) then I'm being forced to use it.

What if the other dude fired first?

Your friend is lucky

In this situation; when you pull a gun you better just use it. The other guy could have killed your friend. He is VERY lucky!

While I was at LSU the same thing happened to me during a late night stop right outside LC.

Fortunately I was bringing my pistol back to school and dude ran for the hills. There needs to be serious consequences for low lives like that.

Glad your friend was safe b/c it couldn't ended poorly for him.

That’s exactly what I told him. There’s no way you’re getting off a retaliatory shot after he fires. They were literally at point blank range.

It's hard to criticize your friend for how he handled the situation. He didn't get shot and he didn't have to live with killing someone. Didn't lose his wallet either. The most ideal outcome happened, even if that guy is a typical POS. He is fortunate though, could have gone way worse.

OP makes it sound like it would be nothing to pop off a round in someone's forehead. It's easy to keyboard warrior about how you would have just blown the guy's head off.

Only if you live in a liberal shithole. The District Attorney in my area would thank us for ending that POS would-be robber. No grand jury, no media circus. Just one less POS to worry about. But, if I'm being honest, that wouldn't happen in the nearest big city to me, which is where a robbery would likely occur.

That’s my stance.

If it would have been me, this story would have ended up on page 5 of the NRA magazine.

No doubt about that, but one reality stands out with this incident: thugs are cowards. The criminal had likely pulled this off on several occasions in the past. The idea that someone was willing to fight back struck terror into his heart, and made his liver quiver.

This. He's lucky he didn't get shot or killed. And if he had, the perp could have shot him and claimed self defense and walked.

Did your friend mention the smell of urine from the other fellow? With a .357 pointed at his face from less than two feet away, I suspect it may have been present.

It's a general moral decline. Not only were armed stickups unheard of when I was growing up in New Iberia, but you also didn't pay for your gas until after you pumped it and walked into store. People didn't do drive offs because it was the wrong thing to do.

This was a major, major, major goal for the leftist agitator groups like Antifa and BLM. BLM's goal was actually to steal and launder money, but many of their supporters and followers wanted this to happen.

Regular people are afraid to defend themselves and police are afraid to do their jobs. The left wins.

I know, but I would fear for my life more than being prosecuted. I’d rather deal with whatever guilt I might have about killing a fricking criminal than being killed or severely wounded.

Basically in this situation, you have three choices.

1) You comply and give the guy your wallet and whatever else he demands and pray he doesn’t intentionally or accidentally shoot you. Statistically speaking, probably the safest option.

2) You pull the pistol like my friend did and immediately start shooting. Although you shoot first, you’re still highly likely to get into a shootout while you’re sitting in a drivers seat, which is dangerous. Unless your lucky enough to put the first round right in his forehead.

3) What my friend did. Probably the most dangerous scenario. That guy could have ended his life in a millisecond if he had pulled the trigger while they had their standoff.

He’s very luck.

Window was apparently up. Don’t remember if there was a crack in it. Gonna ask him.

Sorry....this sounds like a lot of embellishment. Doubt it went down that way unless your friend's name is Harry Callahan.

I use CCWSAFE. Let them try. Ill have more money for my defense than the DA would be willing to put up. They base their case load on chances of winning. And winning includes plea deals. Most folks take the deal and sentencing instead of selling homes and cars trying to prove their innocence and disrupt their family life.

CCWSAFE. If you carry you need unlimited $$ just in case you get an activist DA.
