It absolutely matters. Without a vaccine, the ability to TREAT the virus and minimize deaths is the only path back to normalcy. Some have said that administering this early in the infection could prevent many/most serious cases.

It could change everything about how much/how often we test. It can change our entire strategy.

There have to be controlled studies, not just anecdotal reports from previous cases

Where do you get your information?

The FDA and CDC would differ.

A better question is how long will a vaccine take.

Vaccines take at least a year to 18 months, and that is fast-tracking it. Doubt it will be ready until extremely late this year, early next year. There's a tremendous amount of testing involved.

In terms of the trials, we will know if its working within the month. For actual peer review and all that it will be a few months.

To what end? For a short term decision on how/if we use this to fight this emergency situation? That’s retarded. To determine if/how we use it long term moving forward. Of course.

Your house is on fire and you think we should be checking expiration dates on the fire extinguishers. I think you have brain damage.

With the positive reports that we have seen of patients that have received the treatment...and the trial that started in new York a week ago, one would think we would have results by now.

Something about this doesn't make sense to me. why don't we have those results yet? Even trump says he isn't aware of how that trial is going. That it would take months to see if it works.

bullshite.

I am thinking that it shouldn't take very long at all to have documented proof that the drug cocktails are working.

We have patient reports showing they did.

Is the media just pumping the breaks on good news to continue to get rich off of fear?

The studies themselves may take a while. I think it should be noted that these cocktails containing hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, and Remdesivir are in use right now. Pretty regularly. The studies would shed light on which is most effective and in what combination and for what time in the course of treatment, etc. But the docs are exactly waiting.

Under the assumption that it is effective, it's a good thing that doctors are already using it and aren't waiting.

But, that's only one side of the equation. We need to seriously evaluate if pushing this earlier, more, etc. could alter our overall approach to this pandemic. For example, would prescribing this for EVERYONE who has exhibited symptoms (under the assumption of incomplete testing) or who has tested positive (assuming we test everyone with symptoms) make a material difference in the results. And, if so, does that shave off any time from what we need to do from a social distancing standpoint.

The real benefit is giving this thing early in the course of an illness, or I should say I hope the real benefit is this.

Give it at time of diagnosis before any shortness of breath. That means less likely to get to shortness of breath, and less likely to go from there to go to hospital and less likely down the road.

For that to occur, we need quicker testing and lots of hcq if it works.

They want it to get worse. They want more deaths. Because Orange Man Bad! TDS.
It’s been obvious from the beginning!

Hypothetically, if prescribing this treatment to everyone exhibiting symptoms would cut the death rate / hospital rate to the point where we don't need social distancing, this is a no brainer.

Forget our inability to test enough. You'd blindly prescribe it.

The only way you could understand that is through double blind trials which take a while...

No, the "rhetorical" evidence would be enough to push forward with this strategy.

The real benefit of hydroxychloroquine and Zithromax is before you become deathly ill. All Americans in the high risk demographic should already have a prescription ready for use but as usual the Feds are reactionary and they wait until the person is sick.

My father in law is in ICU and on a ventilator with COVID. They are beginning that treatment today.

Praying! We hope to see results in 4 days.
