I have only one tiny quibble with your post = the 'tax dollar' comment.
IF they were the only place we were spending tax dollars that would make sense - but what we spend there has more positive return for the American people than any other (current) foreign aid I can imagine.
We actually NEED Israel for their intelligence network. No other country so demonstrably aligns with American interests currently. If I had to choose a friend to 'hold the rope' it would have to be Israel.
Now, Israel has its own problems for sure, but how they deal with that internally is best left to their own designs.

I’ve got a couple decades of doing business in that part of the world and you’re not far off. UAE isn’t bad, but there isn’t anyone else I can think of.

There are good guys always and everywhere. Human nature doesn’t change much. If Iran could hold a legitimate vote the Ayatollahs would be out by probably 75% to 25%. Israel is very divided also.
