So, I'm reading this article about Ted Cruz's comments on colleges becoming 'safe places'.

LINK

And then I find this comment:

quote:

During the question and answer session, one Binghamton University student shared with Cruz his experience of having to employ trigger warnings during college debate competitions, as well as everyone having to share their preferred gender pronouns before a competition and “gender minority” female-only debate tournaments.

Some history. Debate tournaments were separated by sex from their beginnings (around 1900) until 1970. If there was a mixed team (1 boy and 1 girl) they had to 'debate up' in the men's division.

Everyone knew the reason. Girls are too illogical to compete against boys.
Since the forced mix in 1970 all debate has been dominated by boys. So, now the girls want to go back to segregation.

'female only' debate

Impossible. Somebody has to be wrong.

And what happens when the silent treatment starts? Is that part of the debate time?

Hey, women receive messages differently than men. If a girl debater hears 'You are wrong!' she interprets that as 'You are ugly and nobody likes you!'

And there are reasons why chicks are on debate teams and not cheerleaders.

2 problems

1st when has any man ever won an argument vs a woman
2nd how can you tell if someone is a woman or man or other today

Well that was the prevalent thinking at that time anyway.

The women I debated with were, by and large, excellent. That is just anecdotal evidence of course.

The bigger issue is the academy, particular those "soft" disciplines like English and Communication (not to mention "gender studies"), are just overrun with critical cultural idiocy. It's a much bigger deal than I think most realize.

I remember back in the early/mid 1980's there was all female duo from Mandeville that would hand your arse to you in a debate. On the issues.

That moment when a debate judge asks the ultamate paradoxical question "where would you like to go eat?"
